ok first dumb question - is it worth putting a snorkle on a petrol pajero given that the deepest you can go is not much more than the bottom of the radiator cause the fan is going to send water all over your electrics ( can you seal up HT leads and a distributor housing?) If its a good idea where would I find one (2nd hand?) or what can I make fit? and would I have been better to post this in the mitzi thread?

If you are going to do water at all. Fit a snorkel

If you are in the South Is it is very important

A lot of air intakes are behind the head lights and it doesn't take much of a bow wave to get the water that high.

put one on that way if u end up having to cross a river u can in order to get out of the track that ur stuck on

Snorkel ... if you are going to near water at all Fit a snorkel ...
As Richard has said the air intake is in a dumb place and even in shallow water the wave can get in.
Buy a plastic one or get one bent out of exhaust tube.
and yes you can waterproof the electrics.

$300 verse ?$?$?$? replacement motor if something goes wrong. I've gone a steel tube way and lately an Airflow snorkel way and if I was to do it again I would go steel. Thought the Airflow would be better designed to the vehicle but its not always so. At least if you get a bare bent exhaust tube you can talk to your welder and decide how far out you want it to sit (so it does/doesn't catch/collect mud/trees and where you want the mounting points.

use drain pipe Cost you no more than 50 buks and if you break it just make another one

Thanks guys,all great help, just one other question .. how do you get in to the inner guard to get to the intake? do you have to take the plastic flares off and the plastic splash guard up inside the guard.

I never had a snorkel, and all my 4 wheeling life I've been careful to avoid deep water and deep mud holes etc etc

but all it took was 5 sec burst of brain fade and now I'm probably looking at thousands to rebuild my motor

for $300-400, its bloody cheap insurance if you do happen to end up anywhere near slightly deep water

I will be slightly scared or water in the future, but wil be fitting a snorkel to avoid this situation again.

Fit a electric fan with a switch to cut it when goin into water,
