L series diesels

I'm after a replacement motor for the broken 2L in my hilux.
I have pretty much decided I want to go with a 3 or 5L to replace it.
Was looking at possibly getting a complete wrecked vehicle and recouping some of my cost through the parts. I have seen this one on Turners' site http://www.turners.co.nz/Vehicles/Pages ... crpage=sea although Id imagine it could go for a fair bit more than their estimate of $1200 on Trade and exchange's website.

After a bit of tech with regard to the 5L, would this hilux be the 5L or 5Le? Is there any major disadvantage in getting the 'e' version? A Hiace wreck may be cheaper, what dictates which version they have of the motor?

I think the change to the E motor was half way through 2000

if you are truely keen on the ute from turners you'd better let me know what you are willing to go to etc on price ... that way i can let my old man know NOT to get in a bidding war with you .
he owns a 4wd dismantlers in welly and i think this is the sort of truck he will be bidding on .. but if i ask him nicely to leave it untill your price has either gone too high or whatever he may just be in a good mood lol

Ok, so I've bought Dace's old 5L, was reading an Aussie forum where a guy reckoned to get the 5L will not bolt up to the 2L bellhousing with the existing engine mounts, whereas if the bellhousing and clutch fork is replaced with a 3L one it it is a straight bolt up job. can anyone confirm if this is the case? The 5L flywheel is about 10mm thicker than the 2L one. I've got a 1985 G52 gearbox.

You might find you need to grind the strenghtening fins on the inside of the bell housing to stop the flywheel hitting

Dace is going for th Commy V6 and his lux is an 89, maybe see if he is using his existing bellhousing etc as these may bolt straight up?

So you'd agree the bellhousing is different?
