I got told by the WOF that my front wheel bearings are noisey. sure enough they are.
So I have taken the calliper off, and began to find my way into the bearings.
The problem is, I cannot see any way possible to get the brake rotor off, or get the bearing out.
It used to have auto locking hubs, but i put manuals on it - but i have since bought two sets and both dont quite fit right. I am wondering if there is a part I left in there after taking off the auto hubs which forces the manual hub outward to not mate up to the disc/hub.

Now, onto these bearings again. Does anyone have a manual handy that they can look it up, or has anyone done this in the past on an LN61 IFS hilux?

I need to get it done for the wof so I can sell it - and this has got me totally stumped!

how noisey,are we talking replacement,or just loose and no grease?just tightening them up is easy as but you need a socket,54mm from memory,and its about a half hour jobby,regarding hubs,yeh might have got something slightly wrong,some pics would help us out a bit there

LN61 IFS hub has a locking plate that is held in place with torx screws. you do need to mod the plate, make it flat, to fit free wheel hub on

In my manual it says if you are changing to manual hubs to not put in the thrust washer. tried to get pics up but didn't work.

I think ive sussed it - i need a 54mm socket now to undo the huge nut.
You are right, there is a 'clutch' which is screwed with three torx screws to the hub, it is for the auto hub and is to be removed when changing to manual hubs.

If you remove the auto hub clutch plate be sure to replace it with a second 54mm nut. and use a locking plate, it is these that stops your bearing coming loose. I ground the clutch plate flat and re used it.

the plate that is held on by the three torx screws?
I cannot see how that is load bearing/locking - but it looks like the 54mm nut has a key with a brass locking rod - photos below.
It looks like I can fit the manual hub over the 54mm nut - but will have to see to that tomorrow once i find a 54mm socket

then the torx screws hold them in place so the clutch plate works as a locking nut? I'm trying to remember from a few years back now.
You have to have a locking nut or your bearing will work loose.

yes i think your right - I will just grind the clutch material off so the manual hub fits on and leave it at that. Cheers!

I have just removed my auto hubs off my LN61, I ended up going down to Toyota and picking up the two nuts and lock washer, a pair for either side. I think it only cost around $20 to buy the both of them. Leaves plenty of room for the manual hubs to put on.

right, ill do that tomorrow then. sold the truck - so want the guy to have it working good

$78 for all the parts apparently!! robbery! esp when i look at the site here http://www.toyodiy.com/parts/p_J_1987_T ... _4303.html and it shows them to not that expensive!
