MILE MARKER WINCH INSTALLATION - NISSAN GQ SWB

Post by mex »

Hello all from Oz,

I am interested in installing a Mile marker hydraulic winch on my Nissan SWB GQ. I have a petrol/gas engine with a standard 5-speed transmission behind it. The transmission has the blanking plate on the side where the PTO option goes. What I would like to do is run a hydraulic pump off the PTO to drive the winch. Ideally I don't want to use the powersteering pump due to speed issues.

First question: Can anyone here recommend a 4WD wrecker that I could contact to purchase the PTO & get it sent to QLD Australia. They are rarer than rocking horse shit over here.

Second question: Has anyone here got a hydraulic winch running off a pto pump. From watching the NewZealand comps on "4wd tv" you seem to be experts on getting good line speed from hydraulic winch setups. I would appreciate any advice based on your experience to help select a pump with the appropriate flow rate & pressure rating.

Hopefully I can spend my money right the first time.

Cheers Ian :D

Hi there cobber
theres usually a pretty regular supply of nissan pto's (complete pto winches) floating around on www.trademe.co.nz but it might be a bit hard to get someone to send one over to Oz for you

Mex, give PowAuto a call:

QLD, Coopers Plains
Tel: (07) 3277 6888

QLD, Rocklea
Tel: (07) 3875 1100

QLD, Toowoomba
Tel: (07) 4634 5777

My PTO is a PowAuto one (driving a Thomas winch, which Powauto also deal in).

Another option - PM HeliSat on patrol4x4.com - I know he's very recently bought a PTO winch & all the gear to put onto his GQ. He might be able to give you some indication of where else to look.

Cheers

Talk to Sandy Bowman at AUS4WD in Bayswater, he's just started up his shop again.

I've sent 3 or 4 complete units to AU over the last few years, but he seems to have a local source for them now.
