Theres been a couple of posts on here about locator beacons etc.I was talking to a friend in the states and he told me about this device its pretty cheap for what you get.I phoned the local agent here in Wellington and they sell the unit for $328.50 incl gst and free shipping then theres a basic yearly subscription of $115 USD to connected it. Theres other features like you can set it to send your position every 10mins so people can see where you are online via Google Maps there losts of uses like Hunting, Tramping, fishing, hide in your wifes car see where she is
He's sending me one from the states for about $200 NZD

From the website
With the SPOT Satellite Messenger, you and your loved ones have peace of mind knowing help is always within reach. SPOT is the only device of its kind, using the GPS satellite network to acquire its coordinates, and then sending its location – with a link to Google Maps™ – and a pre-programmed message via a commercial satellite network. And unlike Personal Locator Beacons, SPOT does more than just call for help. Tracking your progress, checking in with loved ones, and non-emergency assistance are also available, all at the push of a button. And because it uses 100% satellite technology, SPOT works around the world – even where cell phones don't.

just got one, at $399.00 from aviation safety, there is a $49.00us for the tracking over and above the $115 USD for the basic plan per year. I paid$ 250 nz for both, the basic plan will give you the 911, a pre recorded help and ok button. which send to both a cell ph and email.

i 'dl ike to mention that the long/lat reading is in a decimal reading, not degrees and makes a difference as to where you may be in the country, i am altering my help message to say that it is a decimal reading, Also when you register on the net there is a section which asks if you have any health issues, etc I used this to give as much information about what I do eg mt climbing/ 4wding and the general area I am usually in, the more info the better.

Was a bit difficult to set up with the cell ph, nos have digits left out when you set it up on the internet, and for tracking setting up a shared page and sending it to an email was simple enough. On the map it shows every help/ok message, tracking point,

I am on Mt Egmont often alone so set up the google map and the tracking and my husband keeps an eye on it through the day.

will take it 4wding as well even though as a club we have an emergency locator beacon.
