3B Professors needed

Post by minimun »

Have been running a poor man turbo timer on my 3b for a while now but got one of those strange 'electronic'? timers so we wired it up.
Had to connect a plug back together to operate the shut off arm

Image

crude red circle is the plug which pushes the arm (not connected to shut off box thing when pic taken) and pushes the arm circled in green to cut the pump.

Wired up timer into ingition etc but now when i turn my lights on that arm creeps forward and quickly pushes then releases so it die of half a second then back on.

is my wiring a rangimod or is the solenoid and/or plug possibly a nissan part

The connections are normally all done under the dash ... as all it does is holds the ING wire live till the time runs out.
The common connections are power from the "always live" wire a conection to the ING wire and an earth conection

This may help as well ... copied from here

Hooking up the turbotimer is the same between the two diagrams:
1. red wire on turbotimer to white wire coming off of the ignition switch.
2. blue wire on turbotimer to yellow wire coming off of the ignition switch.
3. green wire on turbotimer to black/yellow wire coming off of the ignition switch.
4. black wire on turbotimer to chasis ground.
5. gray wire on turbotimer to pin 86 on the relay.

Now keep in mind, that you are not cutting the ignition wires and connecting them to the turbotimer wires, you are just running the turbotimer wires with the ignition wires. So just stripping a small portion of the ignition wires to expose them is necessary. You can either solder the turbotimer wires and the ignition wires together (recommended) or you can be lazy like me and just use wire tappers . Or you can be really really lazy and just wrap the wires together and electrical tape them
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

I think what he meant to say was previously the automatic shutoff thing was just rangid up with a rod going into the cab, hooked up proper shutoff thingy and every thing was sweet and even after we connected the turbo timer is was sweet.

But then it started playing up like he said, the rod would only go so far and go past the shut off point then suddenly spring right back so the motor would barely even start slowing down before starting back up again.

Is it due to a drop in voltage at the shutoff valve? It sounds like turning on the lights is causing the voltage to drop below the value required to hold the shut off open. Remember the shut off closes when power is removed. Maybe all the rangi wiring has too much resistance either the the shutoff or to the headlights causing a huge electrical draw. Or your battery is on the way out.
Just trying to think outside the square here.

I removed the timer as the whole problem was just giving me the shits.
Turned on, turned the lights on and all went well so just shut it off

Again.....

Turned on, turned the lights on, drove off and about a minute later the issue came back.
