Norinco M305 M14
i'm very very tempted to buy one but have heard mixed reviews about them some say the head spacing is a problem on older build m305's but heard they have fixed this problem as of some unknown date ? anyone know any solid info on these rifles ? own a tikka ss .223 is my bigest rifle and love it but would like a biger cal rifle with some character ?

The early models imprted into NZ (about 97ish) with the walnut stock (albeit really rough) have a good reputation and the receivers are milled from forged steel not cast like the originals. To all intents and purposes they are probably the best value for money 308 you can get new.
Dont bother with the B Square scope mount or any of the cheap mounts as they are a light aluminium and wont survive the rifle's recoil and in the process of lunching itself it will destroy the scope mounted on it. The best are the springfeild armoury ones made from steel (cost a bit more but are well worth it) from the US. Pay once and get good quality.
My boss just bought one for a service rifle shooting gun and he loves it, they feel good in the hand and seem well balanced too.
Dont know if I would want to carry one for ages in the bush but with a sling they would be fine.
There was a write up in the nz guns mag, contact them for the details on the details.

yeah synthetic is better but timber looks so much nicer! likely go timber, read in the review tho the guy had to shim his stock as the beddings not flash, also what pisses me off is the steel scope mounts are over priced 250 300 bux, gun city say theres a built by CNC so i googled them and there a company in aucks wonder if they would seel them cheaper hmmm doubt it....
