What model Toyota axles should I be looking for?
What are the lightest and shortest Toyota diffs/axles? I have decided I will be going Toyota to give me reliability and strength in the axles seeing as my zook is going to need to be a super reliable river bed machine. I don’t want to go any wider than I have to and I don’t want the biggest diffs I can get, I want skinny and small just with Toyota reliability. So what diffs am I looking for? In America people talk about Toyota trucks and 4runners, 4runners are surfs right? Are trucks hiluxes? Do the same years they quote in their swaps work for toyota’s over here. If so it looks like 79-85 toyota surf or hilux diffs look like the ones I want because they are 55” wide over the samurai’s 52.5”.
All this sound right?

Pretty much as you have said but
IFS surf rear diffs are same size diff head but 3 inchs wider. You can get a kit to make solid front match.
Coil prado are alo same diff head but rear is offest like the suzuki plus they are already coiled

And Poo-Doohs have discs on the back (and vented F&R?)
And some have factory electric lockers.
And stronger factory CV's.
Do it once, do it right. Get Prado.
Tim.

So are hilux or surf diffs not offset? I did not think you could use centre set diffs with the zook transfer case, how do those yanks do it...
I got this off pirate…
"Stock samurai:
Front = 52.5" WMS to WMS
Rear = 52.2" WMS to WMS
Stock Toyota truck front axle:
55.5" wide, 29" spring perch centers, '79-85 Toyota trucks and 4runners 63.5" wide, (set up for coil springs) 90-97 FJ80 and FZJ80 Landcruisers
'86-95 IFS front end is about 58.5" wide
'93-98 T100 IFS front end is about 65" wide
Stock Toyota truck rear Axle:
55" wide, '79-85 trucks/4runners 58" wide, '86-95 trucks/4runners
60.75" wide, '95.5-up Tacomas/4runners
66.75" wide, '93-98 T100 trucks
Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser:
front = ~56" wms - wms
rear = ~55.25" wms - wms"
The
blue ones look good width wise but prado ones seem to ne the way to go by others. How wide are they?

Prado are the same width as Hilux. ie narrower than IFS Surf.
Offset front and rear as meatc said but coiled.
You could go Prado front to get the bigger cv's and hilux rear - they are the same width.
But Longfields won't fit Prado housing unless you got axles made as the diff head is in a different place meaning axles are different lengths.
If you got an early Prado or Bundera housing which is coils, it has smaller Hilux cv's and axles which longfields would fit.

What would you say was an early Prado?
