radiator in the rear

well got my truck to the stage of getting the radiator in the rear of the truck and want to finalise a little info on tube size to use. a few people have said to run as small tube as posible as they have had problems with it overheating on idle as the water pump isnt getting the flow of water to the motor. i am thinking of some 26.9od 2mm wall tube this is what the standard suzuki pipes are. i am running a radiator with bigger pipes but will need to step it down a bit but thats no problem. if someone can help me out with the size that would suit. i was also looking at the mr2 radiator pipes as they go under the veicle and was wondering if they run a differant system. have also checked into a electric water pump but they are a little expensive for me. hope someone can help. thanks.

1 inch pipe will be fine the problem with too larger pipe is the amount of water creating resistance to the pump.

are you able to change the pully on the water pump to a smaller size this will help to move the water around faster

I had one of the old square MR2s a while ago. From memory they run about 35mm steel pipes underneath the car from from to back and only use radiator hoses for the connections to engine and radiator.

Are you intending to run steel pipes front to back or use really long bits or radiator hose ?

ive just done mine using 30mm tube,with a standard datsun a12 water pump and it hardly warms up at idle even after ages sitting round and found that when it is at idle with one fan running its too cold.so it should be all good

lesson here i found is dont go 38mm tube even a brand new water pump wont work ......300 bucks later and a davis craig 115 litre a min electric pump later sweeeeeeet .....but if i did it again id use 20 to 25mm tube

Dunno what you have done wrong then Taz, I used 38mm on my zook, with that worn out old 4k in it, no problems moving the water, no issues at all.
I used 40mm on my jalopy, same again, stock std water pump, no issues at all. The trick, if you can call it that, is to make sure your system is bled of all air, and to help with that, make sure your rad is a little higher than the engine

does the valve have a locking tab that slides into place, lockin it shut?

nope but givin the cheap ass style here i figure a rubberband or duck tape will work
