URGENT - Information Required

Hi all
Have mate looking at a Jeep YJ on trade me
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 643913.htm

The seller has only used this truck once and we seem to think that it may have turned up on a club run or two. One has to inquire as to why they would have such a heavily modified truck at what I would call a bargain price. He has no info on stabilizability or off road manners and says he has only been out in it once. So anyone know of this vehicle, as it is a 12 hour round trip to view and would hate to waste our time.

ask about the transmission... some had a shitty weak Peugot jobbie.

And if its carburetted, it should be 4.2l, not 4.0l. If its injected 4.0 then chances are the box is different too, AX15 perhaps.

i wouldnt read too much inot the price either. There was a lifted, locked TJ not so long ago that was freaking awesome that only fetched 15K... Ive spent $26k in total on mine now and would be lucky to get 15 for it on the open market.

Theyre only worth what someone is prepared to pay, and theres not a huge market for them

So it really needs a better gearbox?

Looks like the one that did a couple of the winch challenges and other comps a few years ago. Can't recall who used to own it now but was a member in Auckland 4WD Club at the time (if indeed same vehicle).
Since smartened and tidied up some what with a few extra mods.
The off road photos look as though they were taken at Extreme 4WD park in Helensville.

Yup.

As already mentioned, the leaf springs are a turn off (for the die hard Jeep fans that is, then again, so are ther square headlights!! - but we're just picky like that)

Actually, after just looking at it again, i'd say to go fer it. You wont build one cheaper. One thing to note too is that if theres rust in the bonnet, you may want to give the floor pan the screwdriver test from underneath, however, if its had that amount of work done to it someone has cared for it fairly well id say.

If thats what youre looking for in a truck, and you have the $$$ laying about, id be on the email/blower to the owner now.

[disclaimer: if the bloody thing falls apart, my opinion is non-binding]

I was on the phone to the owner, we agreed on a price. i thought it was a deal. But there was confusion and now he tells me theres 2 other people offering more. I had arranged for a rear seat from the states and transporting for it next week....

No such thing as "honour" or a "gentlemans agreement" anymore. Deals a deal and in my obsolete world its signed off on a handshake.

Ah well, karma is a biartch.

Nah man, a deal is a deal, if he undervalued it in the first place then tough titties.

Pisses me right off.

Had a dude with some tyres down Plamy once that the same thing happened. No one was bidding or asking questions on them. Called him, he suggested the price, i agreed, organised a meeting time and place and the day before he bailed out first saying that someone else had offered himm more and would i match it, then telling me he decided to keep them. . . . . . "what the....?"
