At Ashhurst today...

Post by Highway »

The Manawatu and Pohangina Rivers have been getting higher the last couple of days. Just happened to be driving over the SH3 bridge near Ashhurst heading back to Palmy and the wife tells me there is someone stuck in the river. Of course how was a going to resist taking a look... me and about 20 others including two police cars.

Not knowing how this guy got stuck, I can only imagine he crossed in the wrong place, lost traction and then was washed towards the main river. Fortunantly he got hung up because another 10 metres or so and he could be picking it up at Foxton Beach.

After a couple of minutes of winching Ken pulls another one free...

It did start, blew a bit of white smoke, and with the help of the other two vehicles was helped across the river in the right place.
