Hilux leaky windscreen

Post by Heath »

Well when it rains it pours (sorry excuse the pun).

Just start getting things into a position to be able to use the truck as I intended and this morning I washed the condensation off the windows with the hose, climb in and there is water dripping off the windscreen rubber inside the cab - RUST. I swear someone out there hates me or I have been cursed for something I did in a previous life. The cocky I bought it off didnt look the sort to ever wash a vehicle so I suppose i shouldnt be too surprised.

Now I have to take the screen out and get this rust sorted before I get my next WOF and before the rainy season sets in. Been quoted 120 to have it removed and replaced when I want (3-4 days), but was wondering how hard it would be to do it on my own (although no water tight warranty on home job).

I guess I'll have to chase up what colour I am going to paint the truck and get some in around the bare window (while rubber etc is out). Maybe I should do the back one while I am at it.

Just one more job. Ah well spleen vented, now back to work.

My advice, pay the $120 and have it done by someone who will guarantee they won't break it, and who will guarantee they will replace it if they do... they are easy to break, and it will make you cry if you do.

Cheers for that, I had kind of decided to pay (less hassle).

had a better look after work (in day light) and the water is getting in where the ceiling lining clips are. They have gone rusty and the water is getting in around them. Will get into it soon I guess once I get all the bits together (and save the dosh).

bugger :)

Yeah, sometimes it is cheaper and easier to find a cab in rust-free condition and build everything back in. Kicking myself because I turned down an immactualter (but stripped) cab from central otago (no rust :P) that I could have had for $200 from memory.

They go around the screen, and around the body mount by the drivers right foot.

Mine has had extensive work done (before me) on the top of the fire wall where the join is and is feed (water) through the vent opening behind the bonnet. I have finally fixed the botch job that was done before by actually treating the rust and not just covering it with silicone (all clear or similar). I did use some silicone (windscreen sealant) to seal the joins when it was finished. Hopefully using a silicone that is neutral cure will be better than the crap that was in there before.

I will persevere with this one for now but if I find anything else I swear the god of fire will have this one (okay i wont burn it but I'll think about it for a bit).

Maybe I'll just sell it and look for a little zuk again - Nah I like the extra space.
