Hey guys currently investigating putting patrol diff in front of my terrano and need ratio specs for patrol manual and auto ?

Also as far as i can confirm the patrol diff is the same as terrano rear meaning i should be able to swap over a terrano crown wheel and pinion to keep my 4.6 ratio ?

Decided to cut front patrol diff and move to right side should be good weekend job just finished making jig to hold it square while cutting and welding.

Any info much appriciated.

The patrol diffs ratio will be either 3.9 or 4.1, Think the autos were 3.9.

The patrol front is the same as the terrano rear aswell so swaping the teranno rear into is should work.

Post pics and let us know how you go with it, Wile you are at it you should strengthen it by putting a couple of peices of 10mm plate and welding on the top and the bottom of where the housing narrows down to where the CVs are. They can bend here giving a very -ve camber look.

The patrol diff is high pinion, fitting a terrano rear will be weaker than a patrol front

even with the terrano rear crowm and pinion in the patrol diff i'm sure this will be much stronger than the standard IFS ?

I'll pull down both diffs tonight and make sure that the terrano crown wheel and pinion will fit in the patrol front before doing the copping.

The other way i was thinking of going is using a dana 44 or 30 which already have the diff housing on the correct side.

I have heard that the dana 30 is however somewhat weaker than the patrol one and i'm very keen to sick to nissan parts for the diff etc

You could go the toyota option as disscuss in anntoher thread,

If you already have the GQ diff etc, you may aswell use it and change the ratios by getting a patrol 4.6 diff, you would probly have to do that with the dyna 30 or 44 anyway.

you mean buy getting patrol 4.6 ratio ie an aftermarket crown and pinion ?

That sort of sounds expensive i will try the terrano crown and pinion in the patrol diff since i've got both sitting on the floor at home.

Hopefully all fits, i also heard you can get from the states for dna 44/30 ratio change for $150 us with big ratio choice how much are they for nissans ?

You can get them aftermarket out of aussie, you can get them from snake racing not cheap though, sure you could find them cheaper.

Give G Guy motors a call and see if they have any.
Someone in my club got a couple off them a wile back and they had a few of them. Cant remember what they cost.

so the terrano rear diff head bolts into the patrol front diff, could you mount it up side down to get the high pinion again? or are the bolt holes not the same the whole way round

The high pinion has reverse cut teeth, that is where the added strength is
The Tierod passes under the diff head and the steering arms are part of the swival housing so you could change the steering to steer in front of the diff but it would not be easy. If you just put the rear diff in upside down you would have 10 reverse and 2 forward gears.

i,ve actually taken the terrano crown wheel and pinion out and swapped into patrol front one all looks good. Just thinking bout how easest to get the steering working now.

Mate has offered me a very good deal on SW patrol however and it's making life difficult :(
