Those owning bikes from 126cc to 600cc face an increase from $252.69 to $511.43.

should it not be the other way round, smaller bikes are higher the acc and the bigger the bike cheaper acc,
a big bike if you use it all the power and hit something at speed there Ain't nothing left for acc to pay for.......

pretty much,i also think its stupid becos in id say 80% of crashed involving bikes the cars have been at fault, its that way for all incidents i kno of ,yet its the riders that have to pay for it

ACC levies for all vehicle have gone up a lot recently. However the percentage increase is far greater on bikes. Regardless of whos at fault, ACC still pays for the treatment/ physio etc . They wouldn't increase the vehicle levys because bigger vehicles hit bikes. They must see it as you can pay more because you chose to take the risk perhaps. I wouldn't have thought it was necessary to increase the moped levy.
I didn't realise the bike rego on its own is so much.
Could just take the $200 sting for no rego if your caught but how many times can you do that.

Its simple maths....bikes arent paying there fair share.
Last year ACC forked out $36M on motorbike only accidents (accidents when only a motor bike was involved ) & took a total in $12M ....so its about time they pay there fair share.
Even with the new increases they are still being subsidised by car & truck owners.

mhm this could get heated,y should bikers have to pay for injury when theyre not always at fault, acc data shows 62% of crashes involving motorbikes were caused by other motorists, and as you say we take the risk, weeelllllll,y dont all pushbikers, sports players and everyone else that uses acc but dont pay lvies couf up ???,its not quite so simple maths after all

I thought it was like 60m but then rugby our national sport had 40m worth of claims and what the acc levies on rugby? Big fat 0!

Ok..see if anyone can answer this one.
Why is it approx $60 a year more expensive to register a DIESEL 3 litre hilux than a 3 litre PETROL hilux...same vehicle about same horsepower but diesel is more expensive???
WHY?
WHY?
WHY?

thats some good numbers mike.rugby 40m but 0 levies paid, samer goes for alot of sports, and take rugby as the perfect example, players go out to a game with precise intentions to hit into the other players as hard as they can,and when injured get free medical,i can vouch for riding more than other sports, never crashed on my motor bike but have come off my push bike 3 times, all 3 times a car was at fault, its crazy
and as for 60 more,,valid point but as im not up to specs on diesel regos, have you broken this down into differnt areas,is it actually the acc portion that is 60 more or is it other portions that make it 60(im not saying your wrong, i simply just dont know diesel rego info)

I questioned road transport about this they explained it as petrol is taxed at the pump for acc but diesel isn't same as road user levies.

Ok guys, I work for ACC so you can all blame me! I need more money for truck repairs so just pay up yah bunch of tight bastards, it's all going to a good cause.... ME!!
Piss takes aside, sit down and here's a few truths to consider
- The increases seem friggin huge to me and there are lots of other activities that are just as bad as bikes but can't be taxed. Rugby gets a lot of heat but isn't that bad compared to how many are playing it every week. Through my expirence some of the worse ones are horse riding, lots of (expensive) head injuries, Indoor netball is lethal and then there is the dumb asses that get hurt fighting.
- If you are on a bike and you are hurt it doesn't matter who's fault it is, it's tagged back to the bike becuse you were on a bike when you were hurt. eg, if you are hit in the head by a magpie while riding your motor bike (It has happened to me

) it's not a magpie accident it's a motor bike accident
- It's a myth that off road and farm bikes have more accidents, off road accidents tend to be simple broken bones etc, on road accidents are way worse and expensive.
-PS, NZRFU is a employer and pays accordingly, it's the weekend warriors.

ok so if acc know there are other areas that are spending up large but arnt taxed y does it all end up on motor bikers?cant there be new ways to even it out?y not just stop paying all those that arnt taxed?

motorbike crash stats include motor cross and farm accidents which do not register their bikes anyway and a bike crash also includes an car verse motorbike even though the bike was not the cause of it. motorbike crashes only take up like 8% of road crash stats

I would agree but where do you start and where do you finish, it's aready to freakin complicated
nzhunter, you are right but the cost of patchin up bike accidents is a lot more expensive per accident

ok,well 8% i thought would seem low but it still proves a point, bikers being the minority are gona have to couf up for everyone else cos they aint got the numbers to fight back, geez that seems fair

,i can see so many peolpe not registern bikes if this goes through and i kno personally a few thatre just gona twist the wrist when they see lights

easy solution is to not pay registration, only a small fine if you get stopped and no fine if you don't

Just make sure that you put the rego on hold first

one of the problems i see with it is that motor bikes can be one of those leasure activity items like a hotrod, 4wd etc etc Why is it that if i have 2 cars a 4wd and 2 motor bikes that i pay rego for all of them including acc levies? Surley I can only use one at a time so why am i paying so much more acc?
Lets say i was a bike collector and had 10 bikes and only ride one once a week, is it really fear for me to be paying 10 times more acc than someone who has one bike and rides it everyday? Surely the everyday rider is more at risk. Perhaps it should be charged perperson rather than per motor vechicle.

I wouldn't agree with this, I ride everyday and I have only had one small accident, no one hurt, just paint removed from a bumper in the 10+ years that I have riding.
I do agree though to register the person or register the plate in that person's name and use that plate when you hope in/on your wheels.
My thoughs....

yeh ive been sitting on bubbas comment on how do you go about it,and i keep coming up with something similar to whats just been said, make it per person, not per vechile, and good points rangimotors,re say a bike collector or like a leasure thing, thats very true

There a new article on stuff
Here is a picture of the motorbike protest group picture girl

Lucky they don't calculate the rego on weight lol looks like the Goodyear blimp on wheels
Ok, if we are going to calculate a fairer way to pay, then you have to consider all the different perspectives because no ones wants to pay for anybody else’s accidents and everyone blames everyone else for all the accidents
Road vs farm bikes vs recreational off road bikes vs motocross bikes
Experienced vs non experienced riders
Law breakers vs non law breakers
Big bikes vs little bike (cc)
KW vs CC
Multiple bikes vs one bike owners
BEARs vs Jappa's

add to that older bikes versus new bikes
cause what about those that have vintage/veteran bikes as these have cheap regos as it is.

Any car over 40 yrs old pays reduced rego...but i think thats only fair..when i had my hotrod i only drove 3500 miles in 10 yrs...so hardly fair to charge full rego for that
