Safari front diff seal

Post by mudtroll »

It looks like the inner axel shaft inner oil seal is leaking, oil dripping from lower bearing cap on the swivel hub. Anybody done one of these? Any tricks or tips? According to my manual I need a slide hammer to get the seal out or can I dig it out with a screwdriver or similar?

They are pretty tricky to get at so slide hammer makes it MUCH easier. But you can probably do it without. I've done one without a slide hammer but didn't start the other side until I had the right tools.
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.

Yeah i doubt you'll get the seal with a screw driver. I tacked a lug onto a bit of box section with a short piece of box welded to the other end. hooked the seal with the lug and tapped the block at the other end of box to draw the seal out. do one side with it jacked up to stop the chance of loosing diff oil, less your gonna replace it. they are ok to do but just a bit messy!
