Never Turn Your Back on the Sea

Thought I would post this one in here as it applies to us all, especially when near water with kids etc.

Yesterday morning at the mouth of Lake Ferry. The lake level is high at the moment and the out going flow is travelling at about 5 knots.

Incoming tide, which help saved the lad, bring in waves of about one meter.

The channel is about 80m wide

We were 100m away and this lad had been fishing for a while. Suddenly we all noticed that all we could see was a head sticking out of the water.

By the time we had grabbed our strops and ropes and got down there he had travelled about 50m towards the mouth.

His mate had arrived there and was yelling at him to swim and drop the fishing rod. It was obvious that he was in a state of shock as he wasn't trying to swim and wouldn't let go of the rod.

He drifted out and then the waves brought him back in, close enough to grab the rope and then his mate went on the rope to pull him out.

If we hadn't off been there it could of been a very different outcome, he was in the water for about 5 mins and was going under every now and then............
