There is a bush at the bottom of the gear stick that you can replace to get rid of that. (At least in Surf's. I'm sure its the same for all manual boxes.)

Not resting your hand on the gear stick while driving helps keep it in good shape to.

The bush is a steel shim looks like a washer and fits into a plastic
cup.The Shim is abit of an odd size and maybe best to get from Nissan as I had to grind down the outside of a shim i had at the workshop,as just lucky i had something close enough.Think it was about 50mm od and 45mm id.

Muskie. If you want i could rip you out a shim at work. I just need to know the size.

The white plastic bush which clips onto the ball end of the gear stick in the box wears and causes the gear stick to be very loose. The plastic bush is a genuine part from Nissan and costs $9.20 inc. I replaced this bush on my Safari last year for this very same reason, which of course fixed the problem.

Yes unbolt cover on floor to get some room then four bolts to the top section and lift it off. light tap to break the seal/gasket free and you have the top section in you hands.Flip it over on the bench and You will have the Plastic bush/cup and a large sirclip holding the ball and shim in.Dont forget to grease it too.
