Maratoto trail opens for '09 summer.

Maratoto will reopen for the '09-10 summer season from 13 November 2009.
There has been no maintenance done to the trail over winter, so some areas are likely to be tricky and there is the risk of panel damage, even on the main trail.
The section leading onto the ABC rock is still soft and the plan is to introduce rock into the side drain to provide traction and allow water to escape. If you wish to assist, there is some loose rock on the surface about 50m before the soft area.
Please continue to look after this unique place and go carefully. Remember that a $10 per vehicle donation is requested to help with maintenance costs. It is planned to get a digger up the trail to do maintenance during the summer.
A working bee date to trim vegetation, will be advised shortly.

Hi Peter,
A few of us from the Nelson 4wd club are planning a trip up north at Easter 2010. Looking at doing the Maratoto and Stadia. Is the combination for the lock on loop track still 5242.

Maratoto should still be open at Easter but at some point this summer it will need some major earthworks done. The Loop gate no longer has a lock and we rely on users to pull it shut as a deterrent to ill equipped users. There is a $10 per vehicle donation requested.
Stadia is locked off and a key is needed for entry, along with a $25 per vehicle fee. It is currently very challenging and winches are needed. That might change over the summer as there has been talk by the leaseholder of putting a machine down the track. Contact me for a key when the time comes.

The National Series Final will be hosted by the Thames Valley 4WD club around the corner from where you are heading, Easter Saturday will be Scrutineering in Thames and the Trial will be just south of there.
Contact Keith at Thames Club if you need some help in that area, I am sure they may help,
If you make it, come along and have a chat on-site at the PA area,
Regards
Paul

any dates for the working bee? I will be back in country and would be keen to come and help out, have never done this track so would be a good time to scope it out to see what it is like.

hi there im intending to be at the Stadia track over the Easter weekend and have access to a key.
What day are you thinking of doing the Stadia?.
Winches and good tyres are a must.
if you have that then you would be most welcome to join Counties in going up to the tractor, will see what the weather is like as there is an orsome water fall and look out that is well worth a 20 minute walk after we have been to the tractor.
I also sort out the money to "CREVLAC" . the co that Peter runs that collects the gate money etc. I do this on behalf of the Counties 4 wheelers Club.
I email Peter with a list of peolpe that have gone up the track and deposit the money into the CREVLAC acc, makes it easy for Peter and very tracable if anybody wants to be reassured that the money did go through.
Send me a text on 021 599 519

Hey Rohan,
Saturday sounds fine. Dont know much about Stadia other than what we have read. You said going up to the tractor. Only thing we know is Stadia goes to a junction. Keep going to Neavsville or Grapevine or return. As said there will be seven of us with more than capable trucks. We hope anyway.
Will contact you closer to the day to confirm time etc. Thanks for letting us tag along.

The tractor (or what's left of it) is pretty much at the 'junction'.
How far you get will be very dependent on the weather.
Rohan's mentioned the fee of $25 per vehicle that gets passed to the landowners as part of the agreement for access.

Kevin,
Can you please explain why me going 4 wheel driving in the north island has to do with the club or commitee. Sorry guys of ORE but just trying to find out why OLDBLUE has an issue with my 4x4 adventures.

This has everything to do with the Club and committee because it is advertised in the mag as a recce trip for the club next year.
As such it must abide by club rules. Rule 10 says that no tyre bigger than 33 is allowed on a club trip so I hope no one has bigger tyres because I am not allowed them on club trips and it is you guys who make an issue of it.
My last comment Darrin
Cheers Richard

Richard,
No one has any tyres larger than 33. Trying to figure out why tyre size is being brought up. Since I now reside in the North Island Richard some members asked if I knew of some good tracks up here as they wanted a good hard yakka easter. We thought later that it may be good for a North Island safari for the club. Well not anymore. Man cannot believe you and old blue go out of your way to hijack threads or is it that you were not invited. If you have an issue with my thread Richard or Kevin ring or email me directly and not waste everyones time on this forum. Keep it clean
