TD42 Not starting help!

Post by jA- »

Hi all

this is not the way i wanted my first post to go but shit happens!! :(

i have had this 91 LWB safari for about 3 months now which is slowly getting built up but a sad thing happened this morrning, went to leave for work jumped in and turned the key and was greeted with a very bad sound and it would not start wouldnt even try and fire... i don't get how anything major could of happened as i drove it home from work the night before and it was fine started fine drove fine was fine lol

so i luckly got the day off and first thing i did was bleed it that was fine and didn't make any difference...

taken the sump off checked crank, rods, bores, and what i could see of the pistons... looked fine no braoken bits in the bottom of the sump

took the tappet cover off checked that the cam was working...fine

took the rockers etc off checked the valves were seating.. again all seems fine

so now im lost :x the sound seems to be coming from the rear of the engine but couldn't be sure

i allways do oil and filter changes every 5000km flush every 2nd change...i turboed it about 2 months ago running 12-14psi and no more than 600 EGT...

sorry starter is turning engine over as per normal but the engine will not fire at all...

any help would be awsome... thanks Jacob

Starter solenoid?? If the starter isn't going, it may be electrical. If the starter is firing but the engine isn't turning over it may not be throwing out correctly?? Somone correct me if I'm wrong.

What's the sound :?: :?: :?: My first thoughts would have been fuel filter blockage or air in fuel line.

Not as bad as I was expecting. I have that sound when I turn the motor over without glowing, or really cold day starts. I reckon it's just because there is no oil sitting on the sides of the cylinders. Have you checked the fuel filter and lines for blockages. I reckon your problem will be in this area.

hey guys thanks for all the ideas

got home at lunch time with some engine start gave it some fumes and it fired up streight away, turned it off and tried it wothout engine start nothing, started it up with the engine start and left it runing for a few min's then stopped and tried again without the engine start and it fired up so with it going cracked off the injectors one by one and they all working so stopped it and left it about half hour and tried again and it fired up fine but without the bad noise so how knows what it was...

had new fuel filter about a month ago...

could it be somthing in the injector pump? as i don't think it has had the seals etc done??

oh well glad its going and hope it starts sweet in the morning lol already had enough stick from all my toymota budds :x

thanks again

At leat it started without having to pull it apart, those toymotoas would all still be in parts and they would still be stumped. Might pay to run a fuel clearner conditioner through it, I am still convinced your problem was fuel.
