door hinge replacement

Post by albundy »

Had to replace my door hinges for upcoming warrant. Nearly had a heart atteck when Mr. Nissan told me the price as they reckon the pins and bushes are not replacable. They were right to a degree. They were made so the whole hinge needed replacing when the bushes flog out. Nissan Atlas truck door hinge pins and bushes are the same diameter but longer. Pressed the bushes in, fitted the pins, cut them back to the correct length and tacked them in place to prevent up and down movement. You could use a punch to splay the edges but I didn't have a punch big enough. Pin and bushes $40 each. Useful info for a cheap fix.

Nissan has a special on hinges pins and bushes at the moment, I think pins are $12 and bushes $6, so $24 per side. Thats trade prices, retail is only about 30% markup + gst though - so 40 is about right.

They should have parts available to fit your truck though, who did you get the pins from? I'm doing my 90 terrano in the weekend and the bosses 96 regulas is booked in at the panel beaters (decided it'd be easier rather than doing it himself)

Grunter - it's near the back if you were looking at the same magazine as me

Most aftermarket kits come with steel bushes not brass. The safari hinges are not made so you can only replce the pin and bush. There is no part number, I have seen their schematics on the computer. I looked at using bolts but wanted to stick with the pins and the pins were an exact fit, didn't have to go looking for the correct bolt diameter which I was told could be hard to find. Terrano hinges and safari hinges are totally different.

Hi There, Thanks for your enquiry. We do have specials on hinge components at the moment but we can only do replacement hinges for the Atlas trucks - if you could send through the chassis number off the truck we'll have a look for you. I know we are out of stock of some of those at the moment but can order more in for you. If it's easier you're welcome to give us a call. Regards, Cockram Nissan Christchurch

Are you able to supply part numbers Al ?

-Nathan.

EDIT. shit. just read your above post again.

I ordered new bushes for both front doors from Cockram nissan in chch.

$55 for enough bushes for all four doors with free postage within NZ.

E-mail address is: parts@cockram-nissan.co.nz
part number is: NI-80410-01G00 CAP-HINGE-ROLLE

As a pin i will use grade 8.8 M8 bolts with nylock nuts. Easy and cheap to replace in the future if needed and easy to install. No pins to swage etc.

Isn't it interesting they make the bushes but not the pins, go figure :? The dick I got at Cockram showed me a schematic of a nissan safari door hinge and it didn't have any part numbers for hinges on it. I wonder if there is a separate one for patrol that does have the bushes listed. Ah well, at least we all know now there are different ways of fixing the bloody things now. How much did the bolts cost you? All up mine was $80 for the fix.

Al... Yesterday i must have had a monumental brain freeze.
These bushes are for the GU trucks IIRC. I did not even ask about the pins. I just had the bolts on my mind from that other thread. Figured if they fit then they are an easier option overall and did not even think about using pins.

The problem with these parts guys is that they are completely unable to think outside the square and seem completely incapable of going out of their way to answer any question unless it is put to them directly.
It wouldn't have taken much for them to say "we cant sell GQ hinge parts however GU's have identical pins and bushes- lets have a look at those"
It seems like common knowledge from what I've been told by them.

I'll flick them an e-mail and ask later just for reference sake.

I get bolts and stuff for free or at trade price. I'd expect all the m8 stuff to cost me between nothing and $10.

Should I do another DIY after these arrive? lots of pics and part numbers so everyone else has an easy option?
