GQ & MQ PTO Winches

Post by doddzee »

Does anyone know the difference between the two models of winches

I know the MQ is wider but can someone tell me what part?
Drum / Centre shaft etc.

I was told that the GQ is shorter between the drum and gearbox, and they are different in the winch input shaft so they can't be swapped between vehicles. Someone else may be able to confirm/deny this?

The GQ has a shorter centre shaft than the MQ, but the drums are the same. So the MQ has a larger gap between the gearbox and side of the drum, which makes it sit off-centre between the chassis rails.

Freespools are the same.

MQ has input shaft which runs all the way to the front of the gearbox and exits out the front of the housing, with a square end to the shaft. They originally had a crank handle which you could use to take the load off in the event you break a shear-pin. Would hate to have to use it though!

If you end up with the gearbox as a spare, let me know as I'm keen to see if the MQ gears can be swapped into the GQ gearbox.

I compared the MQ winch on trademe with our GQ and space between drum and gearbox was the main obvious difference. I'd be keen to know if the gears are interchangeable.
