choke problem

I have a problem with the choke on my 1989 Suzuki Samurai. The choke won't stay out when I pull it out. This is really annoying because it means that I have to stay in the vehicle and hold the choke out until it warms up. If I let it go the choke goes back in and the engine stalls. A fix for this problem would be much appreciated

They are like that from factory , its ment to be a sort of automatic choke . As it warms up it slides in etc . The bit on the carb that heats up and lets the choke in slowly is probably stuffed . Not sure I have seen a good one

my manual choke stays out when i pull it out
maybe the return spring is stuffed on my one.
As far as i knew there were two different types of choke , auto choke which runs off the water temp in the carb with no cable to the dash and manual choke which is just a level and cable /return spring.
Had a look at the FSM and of course it only details the auto choke style. Will have to have another look at the engine when i get home.

Yeah my manual choke stays out when I use it. Have to push it back closed. Doesn't feel like theres any sort of return spring at all.

Perhaps the return system was only introduced on the later models then???

I found out why my choke stayed out. Cable was completely full of crap, CRC and some oil to re-lube , know the choke return's automatically.
Had a look at the other engine i have as well and it is the same .
2 little springs on the carby , that return the choke automatically.
Cab post a pic if you want.
both engines are from pre 88 SJ413.
Sounds like your one is working as per design.
