alternators with vac pump

well have td27 in ute driving to work trial this morn a little band and very metalic wuring noise no prob said me then hit the brakes 
fark me no vac assistane there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! guess have stipped the drive to the vac pump on back of alternator have 380ks on ute so guess thats ok but still a bit unnerving
to check them remove alt belt and wobble pulley back and forward if you hear it making any noise down pump end yours could be getting worn have been told this is not repairable just replacable
not to find another one and auction fo rit on trdme closing in less than 1 hr!
