how to tell 8 valve or 16 valve

Hi all
probably been asked before (i couldn't find any posts on this)
as the subject line how do you tell the differance between the 8 valve and 16 valve 1600cc motor?
any advatages either way plus should i be looking for efi or cabi.
wondering as to what i should be looking out for in a early to mid 5dr escudo or vitara

Well I have a 8V carb motor and it seems to have more torque than the 16 valve, but the 16v have more power and use less fuel.

as to how to tell i will get back to you as I am drawing a blank for some reason. I used to know. Most 16V have it on the back door, usually like JLX 16 VALVE. if is a vitara.

I would go with 16V motor for the LWB model though.

8 valve has a blank rocker cover with sparkplugs fitted with normal leads (as in the lower picture) and 16v has 16 valve on the cover and has the long ceramic plug covers. I think.

I dont think 16v ever came out TBI or carb.

i got a SWB 16V on Xmas day (not as a pressy lol) but to use at Woodhill on week ends and have fitted performance cams, jeepers does that girl go............
