Well, sold my lastest Safari to a mate at work last night after 3 weeks of owning
Meant to be down south test driving a replacement, but ended up working this morning, so won't have the chance, but if anyone knows of a VX or similar for around $12-13000, let me know........

Finally got my lux going again during the week. But it's running a bit rough now. Guessing the timing is a bit out. All the plugs and leads are new. Guess the carb could need adjusting too. Anyone in palmy keen to have a play with the dirty old 350 for me? Box of piss in it for ya

Cant see why not...its exactly what they use in aussie.
The removable part is milled from solid 50mm square steel...the pin is 20mm high tensile (8.

the shackle is rated 4 3/4 T & the bar its attached too is 50mm diameter ....well braced & well bolted to the chasis with high tensile bolts.
its the strongest part of the whole vehicle

The whole reason rated tow hooks are used is so you don't over stress other points, and the hook becomes the weakest link, something a lot of Aussies find hard to understand.
These and Pintle hooks are quite popular now, both of which are rejected a number of clubs.
I personally don't recover anyone without a rated hook

But who says you need a rated hook at both end..if there is a problem...1 would be ample....just like a fuse on your electrical switch board at home...you dont need 1 at both ends.

Each to their own I guess, just don't take it the wrong way if you get turned down on trips or recoveries by some

I can see where you are coming from, having this on the rear, I used my pintle hook all the time, till I was told to remove it
Anyway, back on topic. Spent the day gathering all my GQ bits and pices together just in case I do a mass sale (unless I find a Lwb GQ before a VX)

i started cutting up the tubes for my sliders

yeah
dave i use my pintal all the time no one complained yet and iff they do, all i say is my 4 bolts will last longer then your 2. then leave them to it.
so far 1 person said no thanks for a tow. so i left them alone as they were alone in the first place. 2 hours later i passed hem in the same place still waitting.
i ended up winching them.

You can tow me from that anytime you like

, i'd be pretty happy that the strop will break before that ever lets go, same as a hook the strop should break first well before the hook lets go. I have seen the damage just a broken strop does to a vechicle and dont want to see what a hook or towball would do.
A bit of common sense goes a long way, its makes me laugh that some people would turn your recovery point down on a trip but allow a "rated" hook thats simply bolted through a stock standard tow bar side stay.
Back on topic, I cleaned out my shed filled the deck of my POS and got the bastard running pretty sweet. I even made it to the dump and back with no fines

Pedro helped me straighten my cage and bullbars after Trials round 2 at Colyton.

Forgot to take camera with me.
Ended up taking the whole front clip off to get at the bullbar and push it back. At least it gives me a chance to do some panel beating.

Must stop

ing over...
Gotta love those porta powers - the whole truck was bending with the pressure.

Had a shit day.
We didn't engage 4wd
We didn't drive the old track off the top of ABC rock
We couldn't find the old dam down by the traction engine
We didn't tease the eels
We didn't drive in any rivers
We didn't discharge any sediment in to any water ways.
On a serious note, the track is going to be in need of some maintenance by the end of the year, IT IS NOT A SHINY TRACK ANYMORE.
We had busted and bent bumpers and flares on all four corners on the SWB Prado and it needed towing 3 or four times on the main track, the SWB Safari with us lost all its flares, some minor panel damage to the front end and blew a tyre off the bead.
Most of the damage occurred on the stretch of track between where the gated loop track branches off and the Tram car at the Tairua river.
Make sure you guy's all donate ya 10 bucks, its gonna be needed to run the digger to patch the track up this year!!!!!!
