My clutch issue in my hilux, http://www.offroadexpress.co.nz/Forums/ ... 13&t=19160 turned out to be a stuffed master cylinder. although that was having trouble engaging gears hot or cold. The old master cylinder was rusty and filled with muddy/watery hydraulic fluid.

It might not have mated properly to the flywheel. Could be sticking as its not quite aligned up. But I am only guessing.
Hope it doesn't happen to me when i get a new clutch, my old one is on its way out and the thrust bearing is going too.
Good luck anyway

How much mud has got up inside the bellhousing?
I had similar issues with my old samurai and it turned out that mud had worked its way past the cover plate and filled the bellhousing. I am guessing it got between the moving parts. A good wash upp there with the hose seemed to fix it (tho I'm not sure what effect it had on the bearings, etc)

its an escudo with a cable clutch, i doubt its mud as it started to happen not long after the new clutch went in and the housing has a cover thats tight and shouldn't let any mud in.
