Front diff seals leaking now.

Post by LIFTED »

The front diff seals are now leaking oil so bad its leaking and spraying all over the front brake's.Just to confirm what ive been told.If i remove the front brake calliper's,locking hubs remove the axle's and pry out the seals inside each end of the front diff i will be able to replace the leaking seals and pack the joint with grease and stop the leak.Quote also the seals after market are double sided for extra sealing? (89 Patrol front diff.) Has anyone replaced these seals?

Your in the wrong forum dude, unless ya shouting the piss and getting a crew around to do it with ya
Yes, you have the process right. Once you have it apart, you'll work it all out. They are pretty simple. Pull your bearings out of the hub and re-grease or even replace as well. Is it leaking at the back of the swivel hub? If so you may as well do a full hub rebuild.

Sounds easy enough, they are leaking at the back of the swivel hub but i realy only want to replace what needs doing to stop the leak? Will the inner seals stop the leak or do i realy have to go futher.

while it all apart you should replace everything so you dont drive down the road and then a different seal shit out that costs $1 and you could have taken out in 5seconds whilst it was all apart. we always replace easy things if its pulled apart, like on our nissan if the gearbox ever came out we replaced the clutch at the same time because it was easier and cheaper in the long run to change it while its easy instead of waiting to redo your work

If the diffs are building pressure your breathers may be blocked. Worth checking as it is a common problem.

I recently done this, twice, straight forward job, but mine still leaking!?
Maybe I should have bought a nissan seal @ $73 instead of 2 x aftermarket seals @ $10 each. Buggered if I know why still got oil seeping out.

Will have another look at this.
