Conservation Board nominations

Post by PeterVahry »

Each Department of Conservation conservancy area has a conservation Board made up of interested members of the public who oversee the local issues and future plans.

It's not a democratic process but a system of appointments. If four wheeling interests could be represented on the various Boards then there might be some interesting outcomes. The present make-up of the Boards can be found at http://www.doc.govt.nz under the "community" heading.

The nomination period for Conservation Board positions is now open and runs until 10 April 2006.

Don't be afraid of putting your name forward and listing your interest as four wheeling as it will emphasise that we do have an interest in conservation planning and outcomes. Contact your local DOC office for the nomination forms.

Looks good and sounds like a good idea. Have just emailed my interest as I have some experience with boards and my profession. See if the rules are the same as for being on the local health board, NZ citizenship: no way, staying Aussie, no offence intended.
