Gidday Iv managed to pop another hole in my muffler in my suzuki vitara and was wondering what it would run like with straight pipe exhaust? (will i lose power/torque).

hi, i recently did this on my vitara.

i removed the CAT and the middle silencer, and replaced the whole lot with a straight piece of tube.

it sounds a lot nicer, and does seem a bit more powerful, it should also have better fuel economy. :)

does your have a CAT?

i would post some pics up, but i cant work out how to do it?

I have a straight through from the CAT back with a Coby resonator, My exhaust is a bit on the big side though, its about 2.5". Going to fit a set of Coby extractors that i have at home and remove the CAT soon too.

Only thing i noticed with mine is that it sort of pops when you lift your foot off going down hill, but it sounds cool. I believe its due to loss of back pressure.

We have replaced the whole lot over a few years - trial and error after we bent the tailpipe in some sand dunes in the Catlins.

Freeflows from the block back to a single 2" pipe, flexi joint, then through two hotdog style straight through mufflers and then out a 2" tailpipe.

Good power, good note, however engine braking (what there was to start with) not so good. We also get that popping sound when the engine is about 4000rpm downhill with no throttle - but if you ply the throttle right you can get a tune out of it (Mary had a little lamb type tune, not Beethoven or the like).

We found that getting the angle of the tailpipe from the rear muffler right was critical - we were forever getting it fixed before replacing the entire thing with a heavier pipe, custom made to kick up.

Only other thing we have found is that the factory welds on the mufflers can crack apart completely (looks like the pipe have been neatly cut) - all four have gone on ours and been redone. Pretty solid now though.

But you do have to drive quietly on urban roads at night - or be pegged as another boy racer...

i just bought a 93 16V and it has a cat but am going to replace the whole system from the end of the down pipe with a 2" free flow. Does any one want to buty the standard exhaust? No fault what so ever.....other than my cracked manifold which has to wait for more cash.....................
