TJ rear axle: Play

Post by RJ »

Hi team,

In my wisdom and right before Xmas I thought I would rebuild the rear brake drum setup on the TJ for Xmas. I removed all the bits and bobs and have located replacements for the broken parts etc, no problem. While I was cleaning everything out I noticed about 5mm play in the drivers side rear axle. This play is movement in/out of the diff. There appears to be about half that on the passenger side.
Rather than stripping everything down has anyone come across this or might have an idea what needs replacing or adjusting etc.

Cheers

need to check if yours is a 44 or 35 (seeing as its an odd ball 96) some 35's had circlips in the diffhousing to hold them in. Picking maybe we pop that rear cover off and have a nosy.
