New to site and want new tyres any help?

Post by Sausage »

Hi

Just new to the site ive got a 95 Surf and want to new tyres and wondering what will fit? some have said 31 are the biggest and others have said sone 32's fit looking for some 60/40 mud/road. I have slightly bigger springs in the back and the torsion bars have been wound up to so not sure if this helps in the tyre size department. I currently have a set of 31 GT Radial Savero AT Plus, just not quite enough traction in the mud. and they look a little small in the wheel archs.

Any help would be great.

Hi there , welcome to the site.
Where abuts are you from in NZ, may be someone local who can help you out.

a true 32" tyre will fit with a 2 inch suspension lift and wound front torsions.
May need to massage the lip of the firewall at the rear of the front guard for a little extra clearance.

Tyre choice really depends on how much you want to spend.
id recommend BFG's ,awesome tyre - but expensive.
the KL71's are getting good reviews as well. - and much better priced.

Would definitely recommend steel rims and tractor tubes as well.

be warned, not all tyres are actually the size that is printed on them. some are bigger , some are smaller. so test fit for clearance.

hope this helps

Ive just put Kuhmo 32/11.5 x 15 KL71's on 15x8 rims onto my hilux.
Ive tweaked the tortion bars....2" spring lift at back & 2" body lift.

They are great tyres....cant fault them on or off road.

Hope you are only trying the Bridgstone Dueler A/T for size only.
Great tyre for on road A++++,no noise at all but these are more like 70/30 not 40/60.I had new Dueler A/T's on 4x4 good for highway, road and gravel not much more! Got stuck in places my car would go! Keep in mind what the manifucture recomends for your wife's shopping trolly as M/T is often more like A/T for those that drive in all types of sticky spots.Check out tread in the shop before you buy or order. As a dealer of tyres customers are often surprised to see the $1200 A/T tyres dont look much more agressive than the tyres on their family s/w.
89 SWB Patrol Lpg/petrol 5spd, body lift, spring lift, headers & high flow,Custom front bars 9000lb winch and 4x100w hella spots, custom rear bars and stainless fuel tank,Hankook 35/12.5/15x10 rims.

make sure you measure the tyre when it is on the truck for true size.
You really want to drive up a little bank at full lock and then down a bank at full lock to compress the front suspension fully to check for rub.

I have no issues with lock left to right running 33x12.5 .I still get a little rubbing on compassion on the firewall lip, drivers side , but only under serve compression. running a 2inch body lift and flat torsions in front.

whats sort of milage is 'normal' for a set of 33 mud tyres, they will be used as all day every day tyres so drive around town mon-fri then out and about on some weekends but do a fair bit of open road driving so am i looking at like 20k or 50k or what.

thanks
