Safari headunit

pulled my headunit out today to clean up left over speaker wires left behind by previous owner and found the ground wire from radio just sitting there? . . . cant find where it was connected to no other clamps or wires?
now put it back together and it wont work right. . you have to turn it on once you turn the key on and it has no memory/ constant 12v? i haved checked all fuses, tried grounding it and so on.

i didnt touch the power wires except unpluging the headunit and dont really know what to with it being a 24v truck. i did notice a capacitor or something joining the accessory and 12v wires which is the 1st time ive seen that done before. i have fitted many headunits to 12v cars before and this one has me stumped

anyone got any ideas?

Connect it to one of the radio mount thingt screws as this will provide the earth it needs

thanks, yea i did that but its like its not getting the 12v + from battery for some reason

Have you checked the power wire with a multimeter?Is there a fuse in the back of the radio?, is it connected to the battery directly or is it going thru a 24>12v Reducer?

havent checked the power. . dont have a multimeter.
yes there is a fuse in the back it is good.
not sure how it is connected the wires run into a loom behind the heater i have had the truck for a year now and this is the only problem i have had happen now

found reducer in passenger kick panel and has moisture in it so im drying it out at the moment. hopefully fixes it. . .

That's what it will be. Sprayed the bugger with CRC and has worked a treat since then.

reducer is now dry, put it back in with same result plus the speakers werent working!

Bummer Ya need a multimeter dude. See if you can borrow one, or supercheap auto have them cheap enough.

I had a few issues with mine as well, so I got a new reducer and hooked my head unit to that, then added a amp used a 30a reducer for this (all it runs is the amp), just installed new speakers all round. Haven't used any of the original speaker wires that were factory, have run all new wire for the lot even the amp, so I am not dependent on any of the truck stuff other than the 12v constant power to hold the memory for pre-set stations and the clock.

Best thing I did as now I have a system that really pumps!

so. . . put my uncles reducer into my truck and everything worked sweet.
Damn hard to find 1 from wreckers tho. . hopefully will 2mrw
