Auto hub problem on Paj

Post by motorhead »

Pulled hub cover off and circlip was just laying ing hub, tightened bearings and now am unable to pull, push or prod the shaft back in far enough to clear circlip groove. What am I doing wrong?

You can see gap above tie rod nut.

My L200 has about 5mm play on the shaft, so I have to grab the cv boot and pull it through then fit the circlip. It can be done by one person, just takes a couple of goes.

From memory there is a spacer/bronze ring that can stop the CV going through the hub properly. (only usually a prob if whole hub has been apart and the spacer been installed wrong way round)

Other thing is check to see if the needle roller bearing is still OK in the hub. They quite often collapse and that makes the whole CV slop about in the hub.

That Circlip can be replace with a normal circlip, they hold on better, If the brass ring has worn out it may have fallen down when you released the cv and is now jamming, push the cv back and see if it has, you may need to release the top ball joint to get it back far enough to see, also when you took the auto hub off did ya line up the keyway in the back of it with the stub groove, they will still bolt up missalingned bt they bend the keyway and stick out a bit making it impossible to get circlip on,

Yeah, first time I did the bearings I didn't see the key in the auto hub, couldn't close gap with a lite tap of hammer so pulled it off and found the probem.

This time must have been the brass ring. Put hub cover back on and went to the Fun Trials and when I got back home it was properly seated, pulled cover off installed circlip, problem sorted :D

Thanks for all of the input
