I'm struggling to find anyone who has done any mods to a L200.
What's up with that?
They're probably up there with a Hilux in regards to reliability and offroad ability etc.
I just can't find anything that has been "enhanced" in any way.
I might have to do something about that......

If someone has done anything to their truck, let us know (and some pics be good too).

Mine has a 2 1/2 inch exhaust with a Coby Resonator and Turboflow muffler on, will be getting extractors later this year. Running with 31" Wrangler MTRs and have a set of ATRs as well. Everything else is standard V6 6G72 SOHC. Using 95 octane.

I've got a 4d56t powered d/cab. Use it as a hunting truck mainly.
I'm going to do a few things to it soon......(looks around to see if wife close by.....no....good.....) like intercooler install, Straight through 2 1/2 exhaust. Then I want to look at suspension/body mods.

I have also replaced the autohubs with a set of AVM manual hubs. I have a uniden UH-015 UHF and a GME CB to fit as well. I use a Garmin Nuvi 760 with NZOPENGPS roadmaps and POIs (free and updated weekly) with TOPO maps loaded for offroad use.

yeah go the L200! mines just a work truck but ive put an intercooler on it easy as, and its running a 4d56 non turbo head, lol didnt make a diff, also was running 20psi for awhile as the engines are so cheap to buy if u keep an eye out, got 2 spare and like 2 spare heads lol better than a hilux cheap to repair and more comfy, who wants to pay 10g for a 400,000km 91 hilux with rust ? l200 much better ! post pics of ur L200s!

Took mine over to Makara (Wellington) last week, took it up some tracks that I didn't think it would go, just dropped the tyre pressure and went up no probs. Got stuck for a couple of hours(11 at night) in a stream, had to use airbag and only had a couple of knives and spanners to dig with. (sorted that problem next day, bought shovels and grubber) Rear bumper acted like scoop so that has been taken off, towball dropdown will come off once I've sorted hooks, hitch and maybe a couple of eyebolts. Extractors arrive in a couple of weeks.

Well, got my 90A alternator to go on.....watch this space.

Also got an intercooler sorted, so off to get that in a day or 3.

Extractors fitted, difference seen with fuel economy (12-13l/100k) sounds better as well.

Picked up the intercooler and intake manifold

Now to find time to fit it.....

Fitted the bigger alt this weekend - sweeeet!

Intercooler brackets/frame altered to suit. Just got to fit that now.

Finally got intercooler fitted. Even cut the hole in bonnet

Got round to fitting new shocks (std height) to the front and put new shackle bushes in as well on the rear.
Re-indexed the front torsion bars (3 splines) just so the truck will sit level. As a side effect, it gave it a small lift (25mm).

best one. is a 4g63t, not a mitsi man but aparrently they bolt up to the l200 gearbox no issues

Just signed up. My 95 L200 has 4d56t and running a 2.5'' exhaust pipe straight thru with a coby then out to a 3'' exit pipe for looks. The rebuilt turbo is pumping out about 17-18psi. and its got a front mount skyline GTR intercooler. i removed the base overload leaf springs to soften up the back and it out flexes some coil trucks. it has 32'' scorpian muddies. i just recently put a snorkel on it and was suprised by the power increase, and also the turbo noise. all the factory bars are gone and the rear panels that are long and low have been cut. thats just a few things i done to my beast.

I have one of these. 95 with a 4d56t. I want more power, I was thinking lexus v8 as there cheap. anybody done it with the standard manual g-box?

Or should i just put a front mount on it and wind the boost/ fuel up?

While a mitsi g-box and diff may be pretty tough it would maybe last alittle while with a v8 and prob break stuff sooner or later. anyways i cleaned/serviced all my injectors and adjusted them so it runs rich. then when i put the front mount on it figured that it might have boost lag abit (which it does but it has a big kick(The longer the boost lag the more powerful the kick)) so i adjusted my pump so it pumps more fuel also and turned up the boost. i dont want to run it to high cause i dont want to break anythng.

I was going to run a top mount but i thought no everyone else does that so i put a front mount on instead. after a long drive i can put my face on the cool pipe and i can hardly even touch the hot side with my hand even, so its working well. to help with the under bonnet temps i put a bonnet scoop on anyway where a top mount might of sat to trick people. and it does, they ask wheres the intercooler and i jst point to the pipes going out the front. I fell in love with my truck again once i put the intercooler on, i has plenty of power now cause i had just done a burnout up my drive way with the muddies on lol. if you want to know any more feel more than welcome to ask for anythng.

That front mount intercooler looks the part.

One thing to think of though, is by winding up the fueling it will create hotter combustion temps. The intercooler may bring them down a bit, but if I were you I'd get a pyro (EGT) fitted pre-turbo to keep close eye on temps.
Those heads don't like getting warm at all!

thanks mudbugga. yea i thought of the EGT temps but i havent gone crazy and wound it out. its been adjusted to what i think would be safe. i had a boost gauge on when i was adjusting the boost so its not too high.

Hey mate, that bonnet scoop i have is from super cheap auto. it is a SAAS bonnet scoop. it got my bonnet scoop, cause i did top mount mine but i wanted to change it to a front mount cause it didnt seem to work. any way the bonnet scoop just helps keeps the engine temps down abit. . The scoop was the closest to a trition 2.8 bonnet scoop.

i have 81 l2004wd & recon 4g63sohc with cam & recon 5speed box 4speed is better geared,i made arb type bumper with 8500lb winch & side bars,6in cut out of floor & heavly cut guards,34''swampers & beadlock rims,bumpstops cut,torsion bars wound up,monroe 4wd shock,50mm longer in back,hilux deck made into tipper,50mm added 2 back spring hunger mounts,make 1 set leaf springs out of 2,100mm spring lift,home made snorkel,ramped spring plate,higher shock mount,diff skid plate,lsd,toyota air box,k&n,2 bonnet scoups 4 cooling,all done to look standard

heres my pretty standard 92 l200 with a 4d56 engine non turbo only "mods" ive done so far is a new set of mud tyres haha. not quite sure what to do with her yet as im not that good mechanicaly wise and being a student i never have enough money

to lower your l200 without wasting money u can turn your lowering leafs upside down so it kind of looks like a n...or u can take some plates out for the looks.

But forum name is Off Road Express. As in going off road. There's plenty of forums for lowering mini trucks. Also he said he just bought a new set of mudtyres, so would logically imply he is not looking at lowering it.

I'm new to this but I have a L200 that's getting some "treatment"
It has had a bit of a lift with the torsion bars tweaked and some coil springs added to the rear, I've fitted some wider offset rims with 31" maxxis mudders.
The aircon is being canibalised to be used as a compressor so I can run low pressures in the tyres whilst out playing and still make it home in one bit
Alloy bash plates and some exhaust mods underneath are on the list to.

Aircon to compressor has been completed, I have a small filter on the intake high up in the engine bay, the outlet goes through a check valve and has a pressure switch to switch off the aircon clutch when I get up to pressure.
I have a truck air tank mounted under the rear floor and airline fitting in the rear tray.
it takes about two minutes to completely fill the 20 litre tank to 90psi.
