the lux gets a remodel

Post by vvega »

so after a year of hacking the shit out of my truck i decided to stop pissing about and build what i wanted.. sort of
i wanted to build a tig welded tube truck .. but well honestly .. i dont have the spare time to mount such a epic feat so ....
ive spriped out the bits i liked from my lux and started again with a chassis

there were some requirments for me to be happy with it
Had to have the later cab and a wellside
Had to bin the leaf springs
Had to be way way lower
had to have more power

so basically the plan is as follows
ln106 body
double trianglated 4 link ... front and rear
13" stroke airbags
vvti 1uz .... with a couple of hairdryers bolted on (tdo4's)
link extreme ecu
rad still in back
pto and hydrowinch

so after a bit of time pecuring parts... it has started

Image
more pics to come as soon as work out how to get them off my phone

the idea of the bags is so that at highway speeds ... it only has 2- 3" of up travel
even with the leaf springs it had massive amounts of bump steer
so im hoping for a improvement ... not elimination

Hey Wayne that's looking good man and your really getting a bit done eh, How does that deck look behind the cab and is it the same width.?

Ill give you a call tomorrow night as will start tidying up that wiring during the week after work to try and get some order in the dash area and to try and fit the heater/glove box etc and also see if you sorted that pin config for the Alt so I can plug that puppy back in.

Anyway keep up the good work and once again thanks for your help its appreciated bud

Sweet it will work out nice in the end and the later model tray being one peice saves all the rust probs that the earlier ones like mine have.

Heres a link that you might of seen wayne, Its a awesome Lux from oz based a 80 series chassis and made quiet low and flexy and running a 350 chev.

ok so a new direction in suspention
... so nows the choice
air struts i.e fox or coil overs .....

has anyone used air struts at higher speeds ?? do you have pitching issues ... or massive body roll issues ???
can with oil wieght changes and valving it be balanced out ?

cheers to anyone with a bit of first hand knowlage

Talk to Pommy Rik err HiRiklux. You might have to PM him as he's not on here much - to see anyway.

I was talking to him about these the other day. He had air struts under the back end. Took them out cos they got all pitted on the shafts from rocks. I think from stones sprayed off his Ginormous tyres but not sure. I know he liked the ride thou. He said they made a HUGE difference.

ok after much deliberation and thought .......
coil overs it is ...
so i gave warren @ 4wd bits a yell and ordered 4 of these
Image

should be here in about 4weeks ... comming over on a boat
so warrens sent me some 2.5's to use to fab everything around as to not slow down suspention progress

so basically the setup is now

double triangulated rear end
3 link front with pan hard
18" coil overs with dual rate springs
.. now just need somone to buy my mudzilla's so i can get the next upgrade

Bro with an 18incher i'd say he'd be wanting a tripple XL with double wall thickness for strength and maybe ribs for extra pleasure.

Bwahahahahaha, hold on while I go get my pop corn !!!!!!!!

Still think you should have just made some coil overs man, you got the skillz!!!!

Or you planning on some off road racing?? Taupo 1000 entry 2 years time???

Remote resivour are pretty much a waste of time on a 4x4 unless you are doing endurance type events, where oil cooling inside the shock is an issue. The increased oil volume provided by the remote resiviour allows the shock to work harder for longer periods of time with out the oil changing viscosity and reducing the damping characteristic's of the shock.

In a 4wd, the syspension cycles slowly over the ground as the object is to keep all four wheels in full contact with the ground at all times in order to maximise the available traction. The slow cycling of the suspension does not generate the type of heat the would necessitate a remote resviour type shock.

Was it because they where the only shocks that had the right travel characteristics????

Re: the lux gets a remodel

Post by vvega »

the difference in cost between remote .. and not makes it a mute point.... its like 20 bucks a shock on these
and yeah .. i could have made some... but whats the point when you can add 40 bucks onto the cost of the shock... and get one already done ... with the tender lockout and dual rate slider in there
same with the price difference between a 12"-14" and a 18" setup .. i have to make hoops anyways so the 20-30 dollars per shock i would save buy using the shorter ones i mean ... whats the point

part of it is wank factor .. lets be honest .. but so is the turbo v8 powerplant

i wanted to build something that " could" actually be used for taupo 1000 ... if i so desired not just looks like it could

oh .. and id really like to jump this one ......

cheers pete :D

oh and hows jail bro ?

These safe alot of pissing around- eg you can get exactly the right spring rate (and dual rates) wanted and dial in exactly the right valving and preload etc. Probably going to be easier for wayne to fit these and setup than me with having new spring perches made and etc

And also no need for him to fk with limiting straps or cones to keep springs captive.

Lucky bastard.
