windscreen gurus

Post by sig »

are there any auto glass gurus on here .6 months ago had my windscreen replaced on my hiace super custom by s&s ( dont go there :x ) .had a leak (surprise surprise) after going back they blamed it on the paint underneath(covered by an earlier post)which is still leaking .my question is the rubber trim which goes around 3/4 of the screen(my screen is glued in)on the outside ,should this be replaced with the screen ! .decided to have a look at the leak and found that they had cut the trim off and used some form of silicon/ms to glue it back in,which has come loose and flapping around .the trim has been cut the whole way round . does this trim normally tuck under the screen when its glued in! any answers would be good .am selling the van to a mate but want to get it sorted before i give it to him.

i had an old work van that went back 3 times to get re done at s and smith in petone, they were adament that the job was done properly and that i was being a dick head...... till i passed a piece of a4 paper through the gap without a fold in sight so thats an unsealed gap of about 200 mm. i asked him what he thought about it and he just shrugged at me, farkin potatohead. sharps autoglass on the other hand awesome

On those vans you'd replace the original one with an aftermarket rubber mould and yes it does go on the edge of the windscreen. The trouble is there is a very small surface available for glueing and when the mould is fitted to the windscreen you loose 6mm from that already small surface.Anyone who fits the glass by putting the glue on the body is asking for trouble and while applying the glue to the glass is the right method its all in how you fit it in the hole, a lot of fitters work on their own which increases the stuff up rate considerbly. The outside trim is there for looks only it is not involved in the bonding process at all, just cause it may be loose does not mean it will leak.Unless they took the window out they would not be able to tell if your paint had failed!!

Ill second that about sharps being very good. We use them for all our jobs at work an they are very reliable. There is always two of them when theyre removing/fitting windscreens an we never seem to have any probs with rework on their work
