Beadlocked 8" or 10" rims

Post by Fakey »

Looking to get some rims beadlocked for the 40, Ive got 33x13.5x15 mudzillas on it at the moment an Im not sure weather to get the 8" rims Ive already got on them beadlocked or buy some new 10" rims an get them done :?
The 8"s seem to make the tyres balloon quite a bit but atleast theyd protect the edge of the rims quite well,

Really lookin for peoples opinions an experiences with both sizes an similar tyre width
Cheers

Brian Howat in Naenae can sort out the beadlocking on the rims, if you need to buy some Robo can get them at a good price....

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but you probably want to drive it with the 15x8s and only consider beadlocks if you run a tube or pop a bead (especially considering the price), I've run my 33x13.5.16 Mudzillas on 16x8s as low as 10psi, tubeless. They don't even bag at that level as my truck is quite light and no issues so far. They have only done a few trips mind you.

i ended up using 8" rims.

i had 1 of each made up on 15'dia rims by the time 10" rims are cut and welded they become 10.5"

once you fit the tyre onto the 10' rim the walls are just about vertical. when you air down there is little support on the inside wall and i could get a bar and move the bead around quite easlisy

with the tyre on the 8" rims the rim become 8.5"s the side wall was still tappered inwards and this helped give support the in bead on the inside making it harder to move the tyre with the same presure as the tyre on the 10" rim.

as a side bonus on the 8" rims with the bead a bit further in, the rim edge is more protected from rocks etc and allow the side to grip a bit more giving extra traction on ruts etc

conclusion is

I would go for 8" rims

BUT at the end of the day its your coin so hear from other people and see what they think

cheers mudlva

Cheers Mudluva thats pretty much what I was thinkin from what Ive seen with 12.5" wide tyres on 10" rims the side walls were pretty much vertical, the steel 10"s I measured were about 11.2" wide edge to edge an 10" inside where the beads sit

Your tires are 13.5" wide and therefore having a 10.5" wide bead locked rim would still be sweet.

I had my 33x14x15" Boggers on 15x7" rims and they were crap. Put them on some 15x10's and it transformed them!

If it was my choice and I had the cash I'd go for a 15x10" bead locked rim. If you've got a bead locked rim you dont need to worry about the outer edge poping off as it is bolted on. You can also drop the pressure to bloody low levels and get some really nice bagging happening. This translates to a large tire to surface contact area.

Guess it does depend what terrain you will mainly be playing on but if its mud bogs you like got the 15x10's and dont look back!

Just my 2c.
