hey guys just upgraded my terrano to a swb patrol and i'm thinking of buying OME 5' lift ie shocks/springs then getting guy i know to make some adjustable panhard rods, 3rds arms and possibly some snake racing drop arms.
With this lift could i fit 35' tryes ? also has anybody run OME on patrol ? i had in my terrano and was happy enough with it.
Thanks

Yes you should beable to run 35's without any problems and the snake racing arms will locate the diff foward so you shouldnt scrub the front guards. Your driveshaft angles will be all up the shit so you may need to get adjustable to arms.
Why not use drop boxes instead of drop arms they are alot cheaper. Otherwise Look into the 3rd's production arms i have heard they flex better then the snake racing arms.
What motor has the patrol got TB42 or TD42, The TB will spin the tyres no worries but if it is a N/A Td id suggest that you try a set of 35's on first to see if you are happy with the power loss.
I have used a 2" OME kit and it sagged not sure about the 5" though, I priced up some OME 5" springs and they were over $200ea, 4wdbits do 5" EFS springs for arounf $170ea. Ill be running 80 series crusier kings 2" on the front of mine it gives the patrol about 5" of lift and they work really well.

Hey thanks for that, don't like the sound of sagging springs. Do you recommend any other brands ? Also with that lift am i going to have problems with the rear driveshaft ie vibrations ?
Thanks any help appriciated got to get further than my mates 80 series

Driveshaft vibrations will be very bad with a 5" lift. As doddzee mentioned, you will more than likely need adjustable upper, and lower(?) trailing arms. Will probably need gearbox spacers too.
I run 3" Dobinson coils, and find them great......

Dobinson coils are available from AutoLign. Speak with Kris Taunt (09 574 2280). He will probably try and sell you standard off-the-shelf items. But if you want a specific spring rate, then Glen Dobinson (00 61 7 4927 7444) will make them to suit.
If you really want 5" OME coils, just get the Kings SP-5 coils, as they just re-labled for sale by ARB.

Hmm by the sounds of it would i just be better of running a 3' lift and 33' tryes the truck is a td42 manual with HX35 hoslet turbo
I'm just keen to try get big rubber under it as on my terrano i kept on getting bellied.
Also with a bigger lift do i end up with more articulation, or just make everything go out of alignment with no gain ?
Thanks

Why not go for a 3inch lift and a 2" bodylift then you will beable to run the 35's without driveline vibrations. Doing a bodylift is a fairly simple job. As it is turbo you will have enough power to run them aswell.
5" lift has been done many times before have a look on
http://www.outerlimits4x4.com there is heaps of info on there.

Ok still thinking bout suspension on the drop boxes you mean just welding on new mounting point to drop the arms down to match the spring lift ?
Has any body got and pics or actually done this ? Also does any body know how reliable the petrol factory diff lockers are ?
Thanks

The factory lockers are fairly good i have heard people say they are slow to disengage and engage but i have never had problems with one, The one in out safari we picked up second hand and it has worked a treat for over 5 years now always works when we want it. They can be modified to be air operated instead of vacuum which speeds up the engagement and disengagement.

Ok think i might go with tough dog shocks and springs 4' lift and modifly my panhard rods to suit with 12mm spacers under gearbox.
Further to this i've priced up some 33' and 35' the one concern i have with running 35' tyres however is the increase in gearing i'm going to basically loose my low range.
Does anybody else run 35' tryes on standard gearing ? i was thinking that might have to change the diff ratios to 4.6 to keep same gearing as factory ? or mybe add a marks adptors rock hopper gears into the transfer case ?
Any info appriciated.
Thanks

You wont lose your low range. We have got standard ratios in the safari in my avater, its low enough but would be nice to have one more low gear, It is running a TBI 350 chev so it has enough power to pick up the revs from down low. We still manage to pull 3rd low in most places and 1st is not really used unless its a steap decent.
I have driven a safari runnings 37's and rockcrawler gears and they are awsome definatly go for them over changing the diff ratios. I will be putting a set in the safari i am currently buliding after the motor goes in and i have the money
If the front scrubs the guards you may want to install radius arm spacers aswell, We havnt had any trouble with scrubbing in the front but run a 4" lift and 30mm body lift.

Yer leave ya diff ratios and change reduction gears. 4.3 diff gears have a stronger pinion(more teeth) than a 5.29 for example. ya still have 1:1 in high range, so you will accelerate slower, but get better mpg on teh seal. Ideal setup would be for a hilux for example, 2 x reduction boxes with stock gears in front and Rockhopper or Marlin 4.7 gears in the back with a strong diff ratio. Dunno if you can do that with Datto's tho. Check this page for marlin gearing goodness
http://www.marlincrawler.com/htm/transfercase/dual_07_intro.htm
and here for what revs/wheel size and diff ratio
http://www.4lo.com/calc/geartable.htm
I'm looking to run 35's with a 4.3 diff, dual transfers, 2.28's in front case and 4.7's in the rear, with a twin stick. So in theory I should be pulling about 2500rpm in 4th, assuming 4th is 1:1(not sure on this), but really who cares what it goes like on the seal. Hi/lo should be crawl ratio 39 and lo/lo will be 184, so that all means hi/lo will be slightly higher than stock, but lo/lo is really low

.......if ya get what I mean....

Ok thanks heaps for all the help everybody been great, i've just put 4' coils and shocks (tough dog stuff) and currently getting guy i know to make up some adjustable panhard rods and rear trailing arms.
Also making up some drop blocks(2') for the front raduis arms will hopefully get done this weekend. Hopefully this will mean that i don't need castor bushes.
I've just been looking around for tryes now any recommendations for 35' mud tyres ?
Thanks

On my old truck i ran hancook mud tyres did bout 40,000 on them before they wore out most of that was on road.
