From memory the factory set up in KZJ70 (Sqaure Prado) series wont allow you to lock the lockers unless you are in 4wd and low range.
There are tricks to fool the control box.
Also you must be going 5k's or less.
I suspect the 80 series factory set up could be similar.

Cheers

diff locks will work when the center diff lock is turned on, does not matter if its low range or high,.

but if the diff locks arent used offen then tend to stop workin so once you get them working , use them at less once a month

sit somewhere nice and quiet with the 80 and with the ingnition on and in low range etc etc etc

turn locker switch and listen for the sound of the motor engaging

you should also hear a click from the passengers footwell where the computer is located

if ya dont hear any noises, then you definitely have a problem

found this site bloody awesome for 80 owners, but be careful, its also a site where your dreams run wild

my rear locker still doesn't work, but thats coz I never find time to attack it

Had a guy drop by yesterday talking about his front locker - the auto-sparkie traced problem to a short in loom through fire wall where he had pushed through something else

Always go for the simplest solution first. When I got my 80 the lockers did nothing either. Pulled switch out of dash and found it wasn't plugged in. The dash had been stripped of electrical gear like chargers/radios and monitors. The sparky had just forgotten to reconnect it.

Cheapest fix ever.
Probably wont be that simple though.

Finally got home today!! Farted around unpacking etc....

Started to remove the dash and as stated above someone had forgotten to plug the buggers back in.

So, now I have the noise from the foot well and flashing dash diff lock lights~!!! Mint!!

Looks like they could be needing some love tho........

Thanks for all the help guys!!

Yeah mate I guessed that, I was talking with Nigel from Justcruisers today and bought a thingie for the drivers door and a latch for the fridge, as it didnt have one......... bugga its started already!!! Anyways, he thinks it could be the armatures in the locking motors that need attention. I will looking into that at the weekend. I will also start a thread on my very very slow build up of the truck and get some pictures of in the river bed!!! lol

But keep the advice coming, as I will be a noob with this truck for a few more years yet!!

That's cool, Simple fix. The lights will stop flashing when the lockers click in ( when you move the truck)

unless only one works like mine

front engages but rear doesnt but both lights still flash

so now with both lights flashing you need to go find a nice grassy big as steep hill and climb it with just rear to make sure 2 wheels are spinning, then front and rear to check the other one.

I say a really steep hill, coz you will be amazed how far these beasts will climb before spinning a tyre

Front won't engage until rear has engaged first. So Skid, I doubt your front locker actually engages (I think ?) if your rear is faulty. Vvega is able to rebuild these actuators.. I gave him a rusted unit and he now has it working in his truck.

nah dude, for some reason the front does engage and rear don't

have done the hell steep grassy hill test and definitely got front but no rear

can hear front actuator engaging as well, but not rear

its one of those "to do" things, in my 10 year plan I think

In the past I have been able to buy front actuators from Just Cruisers in ChCh, But rears are like rocking horse shit to find. As I said, Vega is able to rebuild them , so he might be worth a PM.

been talking to wayne bout it

we've attacked it once, but it was only a half hearted effort, so one day in the future when work gets back to normality and trialing season is over and I pull my finger out, then it will be attacked again.

think I've said that before

Its me that had that actuator rebuilt for Vvega (wayne)

$300 will get both actuators re-wound if thats what they need.

my vx the front will lock also as the rear wont engage at all.

the lights that flash o the dash only mean the locker has not engaged, but the switch can jam. as my rear one did once.

had a price for new switches ex japan 600 each so i jus removed the switches and dug out the wiring and repaired the contact.

mmm to fix he rear i need to get it rewound. mmmmmm must pm vvega.

i have a spare front actorator just need to sort a spare rear.
