put the safari in the shop for some work on the power steer box which recieved a big hit in the weekend ,
what also was found was cracking in the radiator fan blades water pump had a stuffed bearing, radiator third full of mud and aircon condensor is the same. even though ran water through the rad fins at clean up time the build up remained,
mileage is at 22000 kms and five years of offroad

Its called old age coxsy, sounds like you've caught the fan in time before the blades detached

can they rebuild the steering box or is it bent?

they haven't heard back from the hydrolic people by the time i headed home tonight , the stuffed pump answered a question of a noise at idle i heard during the weekend

the steering box is stuffed, got another for $300

Luckily you caught all that in time. Could've been expensive if the pump packed a wobbly, especially with the rad as blocked as it was!
I always kept a spare radiator (only cost me $20, plus $70 for a strip/rodding), and after a few muddy trips, (or 1 depending on how bad it was) I'd swap them over.
Sometimes it took over a week for the crap to soak out of the dirty one.

May do the same with the cruiser, buy a new rad, and keep the old one as a backup for after muddy trips.

i have owned 5 safaris now and all but 1 had fans exactly the same as yours, maybe i should change them

All my Safari's were the same too, including the GU

(Commin problem) Replaced my fan with new one from trade me,the old one was in shocking nick but still held together.To options in the tb42 engine so measure between the bolts if your replacing them.

common problem that no one mentions

If you are careful you can take the radiator out without loosing much coolant. Something you get very good when doing winch comps as we normally pull them out each night for cleaning. To take it out should only require the removal of 2 bolts and 3 hoses to be undone.
Then the key is to water blast them from the back to foward. ie from the fan side so that you clean the mud (and small stones) out and not drive it in further.
When using high pressure it is very important that you are always at 90* to the fins so you don't damage them.

Then while it is out you can then clean the aircon condersor the same way (but without taking it out)

all the bit done, bring it home tomorrow . then have service on my ute and wof to do, then the ford focus maybe the fj40 as well

got the safari back , runs quiet now steers nice

Know what you mean Coxsy. I have just done swivel hub kit, replaced bearings, fixed rear diff, new pulley bearings=quiet truck. Never heard the nissan so quiet. I can now hear the air swirling in the snorkel as it drives and give it some throttle.

added an EFS enforcer steering dampner tonight via 4wd bits thanks

had a crawl under the truck to check things, rear diff oil level plug loose , which is a bugger as was under water for 15mins and the diff end of rear panhard , nut was also loose, must of work free on flexing,

hi does anyone know where to source the td42 fanblades from aftermarket? I'd try nissan but I'd hate to think what they would charge
