Adamfj40's repower.

Post by petefj40 »

My bro has just made the call to sell the 305 Chevy powering his 75 FJ40 and repowering it with a worked 350 out of a Torana that was doing high 11's. The 350 is a bit special.
It's getting a freshen up before it goes in.
New pistons/cam shaft. It's running a solid cam, the pistons/crank will be balanced, Brodex heads, 11.1 compression, TWR pistons, steel crank, 4 bolts mains, Eski cam, Eski roller rockers, stainless steel values, dual value springs, double row cam chain.

He's not into showing stuff on ORE. But I'm excited about it so I thought I'd start a build thread for him. (I asked him first, he's not bothered)

In it's present state.

Uurrmmmm...........
A good mate used to have a shortened LWB flatdeck with an ex Sprint Car 400 chev in it.
Twas much fun but was not long before we put a MUCH milder cam in it.
Off road on the then Huge 825 x 16 SATs, it would just light up and throw rocks! Hole diggers are fun but F-all use.

Tell Adam to do himself a favour and broaden the torque and flatten the Horsepower curves before fitting the motor. (Read a different cam) Talk to Garry at P.A.D. (where your sister gets the trike sorted) He builds motors that are usable and fast.

An 11 sec + FJ40 will be way less use than yours

Cheers.

I've picked up me toys and thrown them back in the cot now.

I was just about to head to bed before submitting that last one. Think everyone heard me yell, "FARK" when that happened.

ANYWAY.

Jono. I'll pass that on. Thanks.
I'm pretty sure Adam wants something he can't drive everyday. I don't think he wants it doing 11 second quarters. (he just wants it to go faster than mine  ) But he wants a strong motor all the same. He's not interested in injection or a ECU powered motor.

He'll have to do something about the rear axle twisting under load though.

To be honest wopass.
His truck has never been off road, at all.
So yeah. It's just a shiny tow horse.

At some stage we'll get them lined up on the quarter at Ruapuna.
That'll be good for a laugh. :D

even dedicated road you would still want to completely re do the motor internals to make it usable, if you hooked a boat onto that it would just stall and buck and hop then when you got going it would blow sumthing on the drive line and or use 100ltr of fuel per 10km

re spec it, dished pistons to get the Comp ratio down so you can actualy run on pump gas, then re cam it so it runs properly at less than 4000rpm different ratio rockers and rods to suit the diffrent cam then of course re carb it to suit the other things listed above...but you will find that when you do pistons and cam like you say, change them for the better, you wanna get that ratio down bro, do some google reading and look for a good combo for the gear you allready have regards to the heads etc, then get pistons and cam to suit your needs...

i still say an 11sec FJ would be RAD!! hahahha

Cheers wopass.
Adam was round at my place earlier today and had a read. Cheers.
He thought the 11.1 ratio was a bit high to. So now is the time to get that sorted for what the truck will be used for, a daily driver.

Had a look at the heads today.
