Hi all,

I have just run into this wee problem of the idol picking up 2g when i put lights on, park or full it actually moves the throttle on the carb ??

Only recent work i have done is putting new brake lights in they were blown and a front guard indercator which wasn't there from being smashed off. Also i haven't had it in the mud thrashing it, so that hasn't caused this problem either.

I also adjusted the idol as it was really low (under 500) now its just under 1000.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, or failing that a good auto electrician in chch.

Sounds like you have an air leak in the idle up circuit.

when you turn the lights on it opens a vacuum valve on the side of the intake manifold .Which allows a little more air in ,to increase the revs a little to handle the new load on the alternator.

disconnect the electrical plug (green) off the idle up VSV and see if the problem still occurs when you turn the lights on.

On 413 and samurai carbs there is an idle up vaccum diaphram which increases the idle when you switch on an electrical load like lights, fan or rear demist.
Its a small can shaped unit on the side of the carb, which cracks the throttle open a little when vacuum is applied to it. There is a electric vacuum solenoid at the front right of the engine attached to the head that turns the vacuum on and off with electrical load.

You just need to adjust the screw where the canister attaches to the throttle linkage to bring the idle back down.
