Viscous Fans

Post by mudlva »

Hi all

how do you check your viscous fan to see if it is working properly??

my mates nissan s fan has never roared at all including when climbing the kopu the whitianga hill in the middle of the summers day. gauge was reading hot but then everything was hot as well.

it turns freely when the motor is cold

any ideas :?: :?:

i'm a bit rusty but when cold it should turn a little bit. it shouldn't be free and spin around. probably needs repack with silicone.

I have never heard of silicone being used to repace them??? Are you sure?

I know that you can buy viscous fan oil from BnT, just take it apart then add the oil and put back together, cheaper than buying a new one at $500

yeah , the toyota silicone grease is about $44 for 10ml, you need about 28mls for a standard fan.

Ba ha ha ha, I was waiting for you to post on this!
p.s I have a wof now so keen for a few more trips and a few less fines.

I always run electric fans these days so I can turn them off in mud of deep water or they just flick shit everywhere or end up going through your radiator and putting a big ass hole in there.
Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experiance!
