Surf alternator is kaput.

Garage talk. Anything from mounting a winch to water proofing the electrics.

O.k.......I have done the searches, done the reading, done the testing and it appears that the alternator is not playing the game properly !!
With the motor running I was only getting about 11.5 v at the batteries and not so long ago when I was doing other testing I was getting 13.1v minimum and up to 14v+
So now it is time for the Alternator to come out......that looks like fun.
I may pull it out upwards and bin the A/C pump while I'm there ( it does not do f-a anyway.
I'll try a new set of brushes first and see how we go.
Anyone know the Alternator Part # for a 2LT with the rear mounted vac pump.
Better still does anyone know the Part # for the brushes.
At the mo she is in the station car park on a charger so I can get home in the morning.

I take it you've been there done that now? They are a standard brush - around $5-7.

Undo the tensioner on the A/C belt, then undo the 4 bolts holding the pump in place and lift it out of the way...

Then undo the nuts on the studs with the wires on them, should be 2 or 3 per stud... remember the order things came off...

Then just pull the block out of the alternator body, unsolder the old wires, move the springs to the new brushes and swear and curse while you try to get the wires into the holes again. leave just enough length of wire so the brush is still held straight when fully extended, and try not to let the solder 'wick' up the copper wire too much wile soldering it as it makes it inflexible.

then reverse the process - should take about an hour.

If you haven't got a soldering iron, or you're not confident I would imagine an autosparky would do that bit for next to nothing... a 5 minute job.
