terrano diff ratio question

Post by grytvikken »

Hi I have a non turbo 2.7 terrano and I have pulled the gearbox out to put in my auto terrano 2.7turbo.
My question relates to rear diff ratio's. I previously posted a quiry and got some info regrding how to ID the ratio's on each vehicle but unfortunatly there were no plates on either car that would shed any light on the ratio's. they are either the same 4.6:1 or the non turbo could be a 4.8.
1/ does any onyone know if they are the same for certain
or 2/ how do I determine what ratios they are from inspecting the diff's after removing the rear plate.
cheers

if the rear axle of a terrano is like that of a hilux then i would just pop the diff out and count the teeth. save a lot of shagging around

There is no rear plate on a Terrano with a H233 axle. To see the crown wheel you have to pull the whole centre out of the diff.

You could always jack the truck up and turn the flange and count the rev's of the wheels. If it is the same on both trucks then they are the same ratio.
Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.

just found out that the diff ratio on the auto 2.7turbo terrano is 4.6 and the diff ratio on the donor 2.7 non turbo car from which I took the gearbox is 4.8.
With the auto box i would sit on 100kph at 2500 revs if i dropped the gearbox from the 4.8 ratio donor car into the auto with the standard 4.6 diff would the revs at 100 kph increase or decrease dramatically?
could swap complete rear ends I guess but the auto is a rear disc and the other is drum and I would prefer to have the rear discs.

Just swap the crown gear over.
That's all I did when I put my LSD in that was 4.6 and my original was 4.8
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.
