Pessemists mount winch at the rear
if i get stuck it will be better to go backwards same way ?

What do we call those with a hand winch....covering all bases. I am the optimist with the hand winch for back-up.

Guess I'm in 2 minds as mine goes forwards and backwards and is mounted in the middle

I'm none of the above as my winch is sitting in a box waiting to be fitted when I finally get my arse into gear and finish the new toy. 

Nissan Terrano coilovers, turboed VH45, Safari axles, and some other stuff.

After market front and rear bumper with a welded box section in the middle and a lock pin. This way u can mount the winch on a removable mounting plate with the corrosponding box section and fit it to the front or rear and pin it in place with a power plug on both ends, works like a charm.
