I fitted the older style airflow to my hilux.

I discovered after drilling some of the holes to attached to guard that you cant get a bolt inside the guard .
Also the supplied flexible pipe to go from snorkel to aircleaner was the worng diameter.
id never buy anything airflow again.

hmmm, i remember tlaking to you about this a while back just hard to go past the price.... $325 for a new style one compared to $610 for a safari one almost $300 difference is alot of money for extra bits and pieces

Thats what I thought, but after running 2 airflows, I realised that $300 extra is a small price to pay for a product as important as a snorkel

All ARB shops sell safari.
I installed a new airflow snorkel on my 91 surf was a piece of cake. Somehow everything lined up perfectly and it was on in about an hour. My airbox had already had an extra hole and piece of pipe welded to it from the last owner which made it a bit easier.

Price up a TJM Airtec as they are a good option and not as expensive as the ARB units, Avaliable from a place on the corner of Tuam & Fitzgerald. I fitted one to my 2.8 Hilux and it was a straight forward fit and is a sturdy unit. From memory about $500ish. :D

yeah read that and it seemed they had some issues, got a price for a tjm one from fully equiped today and its $528, so yeah better than safari but still a bit more than a airflow one. But also agree that it is a very very important mod to do and do well so may spend a bit more.

Why dont you go to Autobend in Birmingham drive and get a steel one bent up? I was quoted $175 for the tubing all bent to shape.

to be honest i like the look of the safari and airtec ones like the way they 'hug' the guard and yeah....but again price hard to go past any pics of what they have done?

#1 tip I can offer is be prepared to take off the guard if its being tricky, made my life a lot easier.

I recently put an Airtec snorkel on my surf
They not only look the best but are easy to put on ans are very sturdy as think there were 5 6mm bolts through the gaurd.

These bout the only pics since snorkel on. Mine is the blue/grey surf

I put a Gibson snorkel on a Terrano a few years ago and found the following:

1. Instructions were absolutely useless so I wrote my own set and emailed them to the distributor in Aussie. They were going to start sending out my instructions with their kits and said that the instructions all come from the manufacturer in Asia

2. Finish was OK but the plastic appeared to have a bit of a porous look to it, I have since seen another one off a Terrano and it had the same finish.

3. Fitment inside the guard was poor and I had to cut down the tube on the internal piece so the guard would fit flush again

4. Like has been mentioned above it is pretty much impossible to fit with the guard on. Not sure if larger vehicles would be easier but with Terrano's/Surfs be prepared to remove the guard.

The problem is though is at half the price they are very tempting. I am looking for a snorkel for my Safari at the moment and got a price for a Safari model from Peter Munro in ChCh, $682!!!

Hard to see how they justify that price for a piece of molded plastic.
