85 Hilux - not had it long - when I'm in low 4 I cant directly change from 1st to second as the main gear lever hits the smaller one on the way thru.

anyone had this happen - what is likely cause/remedy?

Were they doing that the other day? I drove it out and back-and-forth in 4WD low, didn't notice it.

how much slop is in the main gearlever? could be the plastic bushing that is on the end of the lever... about a $20 fix...

mine did this after a body lift,
still really close together , but was remedied(?) with a bit of chopping ...

So did the surf that i've got when I did the body lift. I did bend the levers to fit thru the tunnel hole tho.

It sometimes gives me the craps when going hard out in bog and I slap it from 1st low to 2nd (over vigourously in excitment)and it knocks the transfer lever into neutral  , and your're sitting there revving with no drive thinking bugger what have I broken now :x Curse curse swear, then you quietly slip it back into gear red faced and carry on.

I would Just about garantee that its the little plastic bush on the bottom of the lever.

At work we had a few that were pushing the 200,000K mark that were doing the same thing. Standard, no body lifts.

Wear on the nylon bush can be accelerated if the rubber boot over the leaver onto the gear box is buggered.

yep - knocked it into neatral a few times on the weekend..

slop on lever is about 1 1/2" sise to side when in gear.

Sounds like this bush is the go - I'll talk to Steve about that

Yep, I'll grab one next time I'm passing... takes about 15 minutes of fluffing about to fit, makes the truck seem brand new
