Gearbox help

Quick question for all the Cruiser experts on here.

My landy has a B Diesel in it, with a 5-speed box behind it. The box has the vacuum actuated transfer case. Anyone know a) what model cruiser this came out of,
and b) if a 3B will bolt up to it?

The old lump is a bit tired, and more power is always good. Way cheaper to drop in a fresher lump than to rebuild...

As a side note, why are B diesels so much more expensive second hand than 3B`s?

Cheers, Nick

The imported 40series have vacuum operated transfercases which is factory for them, the 3b diesels are cheaper because there is more of them around now and the B diesels are getting harder to get so they will be darer. But to be honest you would be better off with a 3b or even 13b.
The 3b will bolt up to the 5 speed.

The vacuum transfer case is very common in the 5 speed and auto 60 and 70 series cruisers. The earlier 60 series had fully lever operated transfer cases. These are all interchangeable though.

If I had enough money I would go all out and get a 13BT engine as that should also bolt up to the bell housing you currently have.

Its the H series diesel engines that will require a different gearbox input shaft and I imagine that the bell housing is different too.

i happen to have a spare 3b floating around ...
ps.... there are two different 3b's one from the earlier and one from the later .. easy way to tell is the later one the thermo housing pipe turns right and earlier turns left
