Hey Guys,

Just had my TD42 rebuilt coz I hydraulicked it... Not a cheap excercise.

Got the engine back and just finished putting it back in, primed the fuel pump etc then went to crank it over...

the start motor engages the ring gear, spins the engine for about 1/2 a revolution then seems to disengage from the ring gear but continues to spin the starter - and sometimes will make a horroble clank noise, it sounds like its re-engaging the starter onto the ring gear while the starter is still spinning.

We have tested all the wiring (by having the ignition on and running a wire onto the solenoid terminal on the starter and it does the same thing

Has anyone come across this before? I am thinking that perhaps the time my truck has been sitting in the garage, the starter solenoid has decided to start playing up.

We have tried smacking it with a No.5 multi tool but its made no difference.

HELP!!!

well we didnt check for water, but took the starter out and tested it on a bench...didnt seem to have any water in it at all.

we just crash started the truck, and its running...not tried the starter on it again

Running sweetly now after the crash start blew all the crap out the exhaust in a pall of black smoke.
